I am looking to put a cam into my 450r. I am going to put a sparks full exhaust on it and a higher compression piston. What cam is the best for mx racing and for just overall? I dont want to lose any top end and i want a little bottom end or at least one that doesnt hurt bottom end. What cam do you guys think is the best? Any suggestions are apprecitated.

I have been asking that same ? for the last couple of months, I have been looking at this web site and others for a long time, if I'm going to pay for a new cam I want the best bang for the buck, who doesn't, I was looking at two different cams the sparks cam and the stage 2 hot cams thats what every body seems to be using, I went with the hot cam stage 2, I have not yet to put it in but I I'm going to on monday and I'm going to give it a try next weekend to see what it can do. I hope I made the right choice....

Ya tough to decide I am leaning towards the hrc cam and a 13 or so piston should be PLENTY for me. I have plenty now but want more @ the dunes.

from what Ive read the hrc is the best all around cam.its a mid to upper rpm cam. the link will give you the durations of most cams.

My 450r hadn't been beaten in a drag race in a while till a guy showed up w/a stage 2 hot cam in his 450r. I have HRC and some other mods and he was pulling me by about a quad right at the end every time. We're on a beach so I think I'm pulling harder down low but not putting down enough traction to leave him. He definately has just a little more on top though.

i dont think you can go wrong with the HRC cam. good gains and doesnt lose lowend that i noticed.

Stage II cam works great for me and really works well with the 13:1 piston, cant go wrong with that combination. HRC cam and full exhaust works well too from what I hear...

If ya want to spend the $$$, get the Sparks cam. Hear LOTS of good things!

Drthrottle, where ya from in Oklahoma???

I paid $130 for my stage II HotCam, I personally think they are the best bang for the buck out there. I mean, as far as a drop-in cam....not having to worry about your valves with some of the bigger cams.

Haha! But I think the Sparks cam is a better cam and puts out more power probably over the StageII. I wanted to get the Sparks cam but didnt want to spend the $$$. I'm over-all very happy now with my motor, heh, it rips!

redracer i'm in Tulsa. johnny is revalving my rear for gtthunder linkage. he said you you liked yours, i'll give it a try. I saw him putting a 13:1 je in a 450 2 weeks ago, was that you? I'm doing the same after ax ends in january.

Yeah, that was my quad getting the 13:1 piston. I'm from Bristow, which is about 20 minutes southwest of Tulsa. The name is Chance by the way....might of seen ya before at JHs. You will like the GT Thunder linkage and shock mod, i think JH has the valving down too. The 1st time he did it...the shock was waaaay too soft but he got it right. I really like it.

Did ya go to the AX race in Ft. Smith and McAlester?? I missed 'em both, i'm going to try and do the AXs at Catoosa and Tulsa.

ya i did go. not a big quad turn out in ft smith except for the flat track and tt. they had brawls after both mains. guess that's what you get when you throw in $$. my name is jason and i should have my stuff ready for claremore, it's usually 2nd biggest next to tulsa.

kazpr, have you installed the 13:1 piston and tried running it on 93 octan fuel. I am very curious of the out come. I am looking at going high comp but still want to run premium gas. Let me know.

There were fights after the Pro mains?? Are you serious?? Thats hilarious. Looks bad too on the quad guys....

You guys are asking for reliability issues on running the 13:1 and higher pistons on pump gas, i'm telling ya! That **** doesnt detonate right and will cause shortened piston life. Unless you have your engine builder put a particular coating on the cylinder which will allow you to run the pump gas, I wouldnt advise it.

I have run a 50/50 mix of race gas and premium and it ran fine but thats as low as i'm going on octane.
