ok im sure this has been asked before but im thinking about doing a conversion to my 400ex, only problem i have is decieding what the best motor to do is. I kno the crf 450 is very popular and i have considered it heavly, but i will be doin mainly MX and freestyle stuff, so if any suggestions on what motor would be best in performance while sitll bein relieable would be great.

For MX I would get the YZF engine. I raced with a guy who had a YZ426F in a 250R frame bored to 440...the thing absolutely RIPPED. I did not get a chance to ride it, but he absolutely hauled *** on that thing! Of course it had long travel everything and HiPers all around;) . I think he said it cost about $25,000 all in all to make...but he bought it used for about 8K.

The dirtbike engines put out more HP and the 426 revs like a 2-stroke (much like the YFZ). If you plan on getting a 426, you should bore it out to 440 so you have that extra power unless you want to keep the stock reliability, either way...they still have awesome power.
