Former NFL Player Killed in Thruway CrashVIDEO

A former player for the Pittsburgh Steelers football team was killed in a crash on the New York State Thruway in Herkimer County on Thursday, after a 40-mile chase with State Police. Justin Strzelczyk, 36, was an offensive lineman for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1990 to 1999. State Police said they started chasing Strzelczyk after he fled the scene of a minor accident on the Thruway in Onondaga County. State Police Captain Donald Faughnan said, “He was drinking beer inside the pickup truck and at one point threw a beer bottle back at the trooper who was pursuing him.” When they got to the Utica area, Strzelczyk tried to get his pickup truck around a slow-moving tractor-trailer; police say he crossed over the median and crashed head on with a tanker truck.

The crash set off a massive fire; State Police ordered residents to stay inside and close their windows due to potentially toxic fumes. They later discovered the tanker did not spill any of the corrosive acid it was carrying. The eastbound lanes were closed for a short period and the westbound lanes of the Thruway between Utica and Herkimer were closed for several hours on Thursday after the crash.

Thats pretty crazy! I only live 1-1 1/2 hours away from Herkimer county. Its pretty rare stuff happening on the I-90. I usually never hear anything going on I-90.
