View Full Version : Starting 300ex in any gear?

04-11-2002, 08:17 AM
Rode my brother's used 300ex this past weekend. Was surprised to find that it only starts in neutral. It is a 1997 model.

Is this normal?

If so, any overrides to make it start in any gear with the clutch lever pulled in?

Thanks,

No. With the clutch pulled in, it will start in any gear except reverse. Must be something wrong with the switch at the clutch. If the lever/perch has been replaced, the two wires weren't tied together.

hey i have a 97' 300ex and mine will start in any gear as long as the clutch is in, maybe you just need to get it adjusted or something.

Thanks for all the help. I will check it out closer this weekend. It sure was a pain getting caught behind him on a hill as he tried to find neutral to get started again.

check if the wires going into your perch are connected well. That may cause it.
