Is there anyway to remove the carbon from my head or should i just have it ported and polished

Brake cleaner and a lot of scrubbing. A torch might help in loosening some of the carbon up also. Oh yeah, you could always sandblast it.

Take if to a shop and have them remove the springs and valves and beadblast. That is the best way to remove all baked on carbon. I have done over 30 of the 400ex head rebuilds and that's the way I do them.

I can do yours with new valve seals if you like? Heres a link to this very topic; these are after blasting. Do NOT let anyone use a sandblaster on your aluminum head. It will cut grooves in it!
