If you have not seen the new 400ex is out, and looks just like the 450R, and it has reverse. It says it has a 38mm carb does, anyone know if is this faster than my 02 400ex.

you might beat it, all it did was gain a few lbs from the reverse i think, but ive also heard it has closer gears on something... idk
i dont think they changed the carb, im pretty sure they just measured it differently
but that's all i nknw for now, monster garage is on :D

i just bought my 2005 400ex last thursday. the gears are farther apart, feels faster then my 2001 ex i use to have. the reverse is fast. i really like it alot better then my old 400

what do you mean the gears are farther apart? did they gear it up? was your old 01 400 geared down?
i'm asking because if they geared it up any higher than what it came with stock in 2002 some people are going to have some serious lugin problems. cause mine hated to lug with the 14tooth sproket

How does the reverse mechanism work?

It's the same as the Raptor, z400, and predator....turn the knob and downshift.

i am interested in hearing how the gearing is on these too. i would like taller gearing like on a the 450's too, but not that tall.
joe, there is a lever on the right fender for the reverse. yes, it is like the z's.

I thought that that 400ex tranny was a very well rounded!! 4 all conditions, with the exception of 1st is very slow, BUt it helps for log jumping and such, where ur almost going nowhere when u hit the ground again, Unlike the new 450's when they hit and stall!!!!!!!!
i cant wait to ride a new 400ex!!!!!!:D

That's gay...I hate first gear on the R, WAY too tall...they should've left the EX's gearing alone, it was just fine where it was...

when you get sometime to compare it to a older 400ex, let us know how it goes. i want to know how the gearing changes things for drag racing.

Haha, I'm back to a 15t now...pretty nice now. But the first gear on a 450R is very tall, it would be a lot nicer if the gearing on that was closer.
