hey this might be a stupid questin but is it normal for the rod to have slight play back n forth i mean east n west, i just tore mine down 4 a rebuild n it has some it doesnt have any up or down, should i be worried , and if i go with a je 11.1 comp piston should i put a stronger rod in it? if not 11.1 would 10.1 still give me ok power , i used to have a 426 but it blew up so i bought a used motor n just want to go to 416 this time, any info would help.

no worries.... its supposed to have some side to side play in it, as long as you dont have any up and down play you are in good shape.

you should be ok with the stock rod, unless you have the money to spend on a stronger after market one, if you go any higher than 11:1 then you will need to put a stonger rod in there for sure.

It must have few thousanths clearance to be able to pivot on the crank.

That side clearance has to be there so that when things heat up and expand, you don't have any binding. If you have a service manual, you can look up the clearance and measure it with a feeler gauge. It's probably fine if you had no problems before you tore it down. It probably wouldn't be worth the time or money to put a stronger rod in unless you're running upwards of 12:1 or more. If you don't do the bottom end teardown and reassembly yourself, installing a new rod can get pretty spendy.

the difference between the 426 and 416 shouldn't be noticable.
