Some good bands in there guys (and gals)... I'm not particularly fond of punk rock... or heavy/death metals either...

However I do like "Sun Does'nt Rise" by Mushroomhead (killer song) and "Suffocate" by a band called Motograter. Not sure if any of you have heard of them.

Since most of you named more than one, I shall continue my list as well.

Led Zeppelin (all bow down to Jimmy Page)
who can forget the Rolling Stones
Aerosmith
Van Halen
Tom Petty and the heartbreakers
311
Stevie Ray Vaughn
hendrix

Mostly all I listen to is 70's rock.

yeah hes not my top choice either(still great)....but to even compare him to todays "guitarists"(most of them just run around, hitting their guitars on amps and stuff...i do realize there is a few good modern day players)is redicilous

Metallica

The list goes on and on and on.....currently listening to the new Flaw album which is amazing!

Today's hard rock doesnt have the standout guitarist of yesterdays rock music. We have Kirk Hammett, DimeBag Darrel, Slash, Joe Satrinni (cant spell)....but no NEW stand out guitarists. The guitarists from Killswitch Engage have some awesome riffs and a few cool solos....same with Breaking Benjamin and CrossFade. 12 Stones' guitarists also has some great solos/riffs but nothing to the extent of Hammett, Hendrix, Page, Vaughn, etc etc. I think the age of the rock solo has past by and might not be coming back. Most bands are just writing these hard hitting riffs today and the guitar solo is kind of a lost art. I mean, even Metallica has dropped the solos from their music which is BULL****!! Sorry, kind of touchy towards the new Metallica music, blah!

Dude I 100% agree with u!!! I hate it, there's like no extremely good guitarists anymore. Like u said..sure there's great riffs n stuff like that...but I love hearin like these big solo's n more complicated music. Stuff that isn't so simple. I hope that they do slowly start to get more GOOD artists here soon though. One band that I find that they have a pretty good lead guitarist though is The Darkness. I don't particularly love them, but in their song "Love Is Only A Feeling", I like that song cuz it has pretty good guitar:)

yeah it seems everyone is out to make the allmighty dolar and not put there heart and soul and talent into what they are recording.

this is why i love 311 so much. they were never in it for the money but where in it to get there message across to there fans. plus if you listen to there stuff you will find out that everyone of them is a complete badass at what they do. tim from 311 is one of the best guitarist's that i have ever heard, hiss tuff is amazing and so smooth. listen to the song OMAHA STYLEE by 311 and you will see what i mean and then listen to NIX HEX. he can play so smooth and technical on one song and then play so malotic(sp*) on another. he is great.

If you want a good guitar player, and it doesnt have to be heavy metal, Kenny Wayne Shepherd is awesome.

yeah, i have never seen them live but a buddy of mine has and said they were awsome when they were warning up.

if you want good guitarist to listen to, listen to unearth. they are like a metal-core band with 80's guitar rifs. they are completely sick on the guitar and drums.

now that would be a show, if they have ever toured together and you know where you can get some bootleg footage of that let me know. i think the best 311 show i ever saw was when incubus opened up for them 5 or 6 years ago. that was the biggest chronic fest i have been apart of. i still have a scar from a mangled thumb that i ended up with in the mosh pit from some fool that had spikes around his neck.

ehhherrmmm..... C'mon guys. seriously... you'd pick WHO over hendrix? lol

Best guitarists of all time 1. Hendrix, 2. Page, 3. Vaughn

Also you can't forget guys like the man Eric Clapton... That man is a musical genius.

I agree with you all... I wish things would get back to the way they used to be.

Also, when it comes to drummers, check out Bonham from Zeppelin. Dude is nasty. Listen to "Dazed and Confused", "Since I've been loving you" and "Moby Dick" and name a better drummer. :D
