View Full Version : Your First Car???

There was a thread about this topic in another forum and I figured I'd ask you guys what your first car was when you were finally able to afford one .

Mine .... It was either an 86 or an 89 Ford Escort Hatchback ... all red with a black door cuz I had to replace it cuz it had rusted out. I owed the car for many years and never painted the door .... sure wasn't a chick magnet thats for sure . I remember I paid $500 for it ... and 2 days later the transmission blew in it and I brought it back to the guy .... he fixed it ( which cost him a few hundred) . I drove the chit out of the car and brought it through places trucks wouldn't go . In the end the intake had cracked , started eating up the oil like crazy and eventually anti-freeze got into the heads and ate the pistons . That car was the best $500 I ever spent .

Evere since that Escort , all of my cars have been "throw -away" cars ...... run them till they die . I never paid over $1000 for anything , except for my Sunfire GT which ran me up a good bill cuz it was only few years old . Other than that .... the Escort , Mercury Topaz  and an 81 Chevy Malibu :blah: ( 4 door , rear wheel drive with bald tires ... total death machine in the winter and it was painted a saumon brown color .)

So what was your first car?????

LOL my first car was a 1969 Plymoth FuryIII with a 318 Interceptor. That car saw more concerts, drive-in movies and mountain keg parties than any car in town:devil: I bought it for $400 and sold it back to the guy I bought it from a year and a half later for $350. He ran it in the demolition derby the year I graduated from HS.

My 1st car was a 1984 Ford Escort 4 speed, 4 door. I baught it when I was 15. I had more $$ in the stereo system than I did in the car. Me and my buddies ran the $### out of that car. We put it on it's side in a ditch on purpous a few times. It went many places that only 4X4 trucks should have been taken. Only problem I ever had with it was that it burnt up a coil. I sold it for $50 less than I gave after I put about 25,000 on it in the year that I drove it. The guy I sold it to works with my father at a Ford dealership he put another 115,000 miles on it and the only problem he ever had was the clutch. He says that it still did not use any oil. He did make the car look a lot better than it ever did when I owned it, but I had no reason to waste $$ on paint when I did not care about the car. It was just a beater to me and I treated it as such. He just sold it a few months ago for what he gave me for it.

I still have my 2nd and 3rd cars along with the only truck I have ever owned. The 2nd car and the truck are my babies, but the 3rd car is a 94 Mercury Tracer 4 door 5 speed that gets treated worse than the 1st car did. I have put 85,000 hard miles on that car since Aug. of 2000 with only clutch problems, and 1 blown out strut but that should be expected since the car had 120,000 on it when I purchased it and I have abused it like I do. I have provem to many people that a front wheel drive will do almost anything that a 4X4 will if you drink enough beer then hit the hill or hole hard enough, and will continue taking that car plkaces that my 2001 F250 Superduty will never see. Here are a few pictures of average places taht the truck goes just to give an idea about what the cars go thru (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4286971155)

1976 plymouth volare. sky blue with black on the bottom. got rear ended stopped and the guy in the truck was goin 40. after that i sold it to my friend and we bajad it through the woods quite a few times, jumped ditches with it in the wintertime. spun donuts on the ice many times, that think was tough it had the 225 slant six motor in it with 1 bbl carb.

1989 Ford Bronco Xlt, that I just bought about a week and a half ago. Alpine sound system, flowmaster, KnN intake, 33" Bfg M/T tires, CHERRY inside and out. It's the 5.8L efi engine also:) I'll have pics as soon as my friend gets them to me. I went 4 wheeling last week and it was an absolute Beast, not a poser 4x4 like all the new suv's:devil:

My first vehicle was a 76 Jeep CJ5 that is about 6 different colors...Had an AMC 304 w/ 3spd trans...i could get rubber in 2nd gear! I used to rod the hell out of that thing and it kept on ticking. I finally was a lil to hard on the tranny and it went out, but i have a 4 spd for it if i ever decide to drive it! I upgraded now though and drive a 1991 Toyota Pickup 4x4...im much nicer to it, It's my baby! along with my quad that it hauls around

My first car wasn't a car, it was a truck. It was a two tone blue 1988 Ford Ranger. It had a 4cyl with a 5 speed and looking back, sometimes I thought it was a V8, or at least tried to make it that fast. I had it for about a year and 1/2 when the head let go, taking out a couple pistons and the cam with it. Oh well. Got it cheap enough back in the day. I actually miss that truck and saw it driving around again about 2 months ago. Still has the big dent in the bed where someone backed into me in a parking lot.

My first car was a 1980 Chevy Citation with a 2.8 V6 when I was 15. It was rusted out but the engine and tranny ran well. I went to visit family in North Carolina and found another Citation with a mint body for $100. Brought it home and at 15 I swapped the 2.8 out of the rust bucket and replaced the 2.5I4 in the good body:macho

My first car was a 1980 Dodge Omni. It was a two door with a 4 cylinder- three speed manual. Got it for free from my brother. It was his first car also. It sat in the driveway for 2 years until I could drive. Boy did that car suck but for my first car I couldn't have asked for anything else.

i know ill get greif for this i got my first car when i was 16, a 2003 F150 8ft bed, 4x4.

and then at 17 i drive a 1999 S10 ext cab with the 2.2 4cly engine.

yes the f150 was overall an nicer truck, but i didnt like paying the gas bill every month, filled up every 4 or 5 days at 45 bucks a tank. i fill the S10 up at 20 bucks a tank and it lasts a week and a half. plus i like standard better and having the extended cab.

I traded the Ford in on it and got some money back too so i liked that part as well.

1998 GMC sierra 1500 with a 4.3L v6, k&n and flowmaster. it was a nascar truck as my buddies called it. it would break the tires loose at 30mph if i stomped on it. it was a company work truck and i bought it for a grand. good deal IMO. i ran the dog piss out of that truck and it still ran as good as the day i bought it. i was cutting D's in a wet field one time with 8 people in the back for an hour straight. i poped the hood and the whole thing was glowing. the manifolds where cherry red. it was awsome.

i now have a 92 f-150 extended cab 4x4. i thought it was a muddin SOB untill i got it stuck in someones front yard about 3 weeks ago. didnt know the people so i just shut it off and called my buddy to come pull me out. he has a ford dualy and he had to hook up 4 times befor he got me out. i was burried. and to top it off, i cant tell what engine is in it, i think its a 351 with 302 intake, but im not sure, its was a crate short block that some hill billy put in before i bought it. 1500 bucks for the truck and it will do 2nd gear scratches with 31" all terrain tires on it. its a beast. oh yeah, the 4wheel drive dont work.:macho :macho :macho

My first car - 1992 Pontiac Firebird with a 3.1 V6. Wait a minute... that's still my car! I am in LOVE with that car. Even though it's a small 6 cylinder with about 205k miles it's my hot rod lol. And don't think when I say hot rod I think it's fast b/c it's not, but it's by far not as slow as you would think a high mileage v6 would be.

Alright after reading sum of the post on here I couldnt help but to post my 1st sets of wheels... lol and take in to mind Im only 17 and everything I have is all mine.. AS IN I payed for everything... My very 1st set of wheels was a 1991 Ford Ranger.. STUDMOBILE lol... It had a lil more the 220,00 miles on it when I got it. It was a light blue EXT Cab 4 by 4 it had the good ol 4.0 V6 I paid a grand for it when I got it Once I had got it I put a 3 inch Sups. Lift on it 33 inch mudders on it and I droped in a used new motor ( new to me) After that Sumone told me they would buy the truck off me for 4 grand.... Needless to say I sold it.. I only gave 650.00 for the motor.. I gave a 100.00 for the used 33's and rims and had maybe onther 500.00 in the lift so I came out pretty good :macho After I sold that I got a toyota Pickup... had the lil R22 motor ( 4 banger ) It was rusted out so I cut of the bed and built a custom short bed for it then I put a 3 inch body lift on it 33\12.5 thronbrid mudders on it.. I paid 800.00 and sum bucks for it.. Then I put maybe 1200.00 in it I blew the tranny apart in it mudding and the sold the truck for 2900.00 with 175,000 miles on it :) .... Man I should be a sales person when I grow up lol... Once I sold that Truck With the money I had saved from wheeling and dealing and also from work I had got a 1997 Grand Prix GTP with all power and leather seats, along with hud.. Dark green... Ive done sum odds and ends to it... System, tinted windows, GTP sticker and a lil odds and ends So thats what I have now... But I need to sell it cause it dont haul my 4-wheeler to the races :( GREAT FUN FAST CAR...........

My first set of wheels was a 68 chevelle malibu. I still have it for cruising around because it sucks down to much gas to drive everyday. Has a built 350 with a 4-speed. And after you hit 120 the needle on the speedo drops in between 0 and 120 and hangs there limp. Yeah its just a little fast. It was a great first car. I also now own a 69 chevy 3/4 ton truck and a 57 oldmobile delta 88 two door no post in the process of being stripped to the frame and fully rodded out.

You can buy a 95-96 Eddie Bauer bronco for that much. With all leather, power everything, turn signals on the mirrors, 5.8L 351... fully decked out. Plus the bronco's haul balls offroading, and the turning radius is scary. You can a complete u-turn as tight/or tighter than most cars. Can ya tell I'm loving my new bronco:devil:

Yeah man that thing was scarrrryy faassttt, and def. the badddest thing in my toen. Totally original except for the wheels and I had a set of CNC'd Billet drag stars on it. It was tough 16's up front and 17's in the rear. My dad about crapped when I put tires on them and he saw the bill (this was 0ver 10 years ago)!

But it was sweeeet! Stomp it to the floor and watch the boost gauges peg!
That thing ate camaro's, mustang's, iroc's, and other t-types. It was just plain tough. Drove like a Caddy too!

I was 18 when I sold it. I am not sure about then but I think I am tearing up thinking about it now!

My first one was a 1994 Chevy S10,2wd,4.3 5 spd, no ac,regular cab. I got it before I had my permit at the beginning of this year, my dad drove it a little bit for 3 months until i got my permit in March, I learned how to drive a 5 spd in it, but I just didn't really like shifting all the time and the no ac part sucked and I really wanted an ext. cab. So we were out looking one day and found a 99 s10-2wd,auto,3rd door,4.3,ac,all that good crap and it was super cheap. I got more for a trade in on my 94 than I paid for it, and sold my 400ex to pay off the rest of the 99. I've had the 99 since early may i think and I couldn't be happier with my decision.
Here's the 94

Well i actually have 3 first vehicles, haha. But the one i drive is a '95 Nissan Pathfinder, it has a mear 230,000 miles on it and it still runs like a top! Then comes the '87 S-10 v-6 2wd with an aftermarket moonroof, haha. that thing laid rubber till i ran out of brakes. and thats why i dont drive it because it has no brakes anymore, haha. And the last beauty i have is a '83 AMC Concord. That thing starts right up all the time, has a valve cover gasket leak and the radiator blew apart, other than that its an awsome car. The S-10 and the Concord are both getting a General Lee paint job for the demo derby at the fair this year.

'79 T-Bird Heritage edition. It was five years old, baby blue and had a moon roof. My friends called it the blue barge. Ran it to 200,000.

'82 Mazda GLC. Bought it for $200, spent another $250 on a reman. engine and drove the s**t out of it for 2 years straight. I also bought a '65 Impala from the same guy at the same time, but ended up working on it a bit and sold it before I got my license.

My first car was a 1980 Chrysler Lebaron coupe. It came with a 318/904. It did take long for a swap (tried to put a 440 6pack in it but the frame wasnt wide enough) to a 325 horse 1968 340 4bl with a direct connection purple shaft series cam and a 927 tranny. The car had 243 rear end gears and it would fly, broke 2 speedo cables, According to the gear ratio and tire size it would do around 160 at 7 grand. Its a wonder I lived to get my liscense with that car. My buddy had his liscense but wasnt aload to drive very often, I had my permit and was alload to drive with him. It wasnt worth a crap in the 1/4 but we would race a 7 mile stretch from school and there was a 1/2 mile straight in the middle of that 7 miles. Wasnt nothing around that could toucher in the top end floored. I now drive a 03 Dakota with a v6, someday it will get the 340 4bl.
