:( This last weekend I got a little over zelious with the trial , hit a tree bunch and put about a 1 inch bend in my tie rod. Well it seems I have a little free time :devil So if anyone knows if there is a stronger tie rod out there to purchase I would much thankful :D

stock 250R tie rods are stronger. You can probably pick them up used for pretty cheap.

I got stock 250r a-arms + tie-rods that are perfectly straight on ebay for 57$, so you can really get them cheap.

I tried to bend it back but it seemed pretty solid. I read somewhere that a hollow tie rod is stronger than a solid one. what have u heard?

I was wondering if anyone else has heard anything more about tie rods? Any info would help. Thanx:macho

Hey guys, I was just thinking that if you get shorter tie rods they wouldn't bend!!!!!!!!!! Get about a 3'' piece of steel rod take it to a machine shop have them put the right threads on it and it would be real strong!!!!!!!!

The tie rod bent in like a U shape, but not as bad, but anyways, i welded the bolt on the back side after i bent it back, so it is like a stronger back bone for it,

I see what u did with the bolts! Anyways here's a shot of mine!

Order yourself some extra 400EX tie rods from servicehonda. They are approx $3 each. Not worth the time to try to bend them back unless you're in a pinch.

Don't buy stronger or 250R tie rods for two reasons -

First off, you'll spend a lot more money on one 250R tie rod than you'll spend on 7 400EX rods and you still don't have a guarantee they won't bend if you smack a tree.

Secondly, the 400ex tie rod is a fuse - it protects more expensive stuff from damage (like the aluminum steering knuckle). The 250R was equipped with stronger tie rods because it had a steel knuckle.

Think of yourself as just having saved $100 by bending your $3 tie rod, instead of breaking your steering knuckle (or transmitting that shot to your wrists, etc)

I've already ordered 4 for back up! Thanx for the info and the idea! :D

86atc250r, exactly dude. sometimes things just aren't ment to be stonger, and in this case a tie rod is somewhat of a fuse. good call there man.

how come a tie rod for a 400 is like 3 bucks when ones for a 250x/300 r like 25?
and they r the same thing but ones longer

Because the 400EX is made in America and most of it's parts are as well....

Also take a look at rear hub prices for a 2002 300EX and a 2002 400EX -

300EX= > $100
400EX= $25

It's the same thing - only one hub is made in america, the other is not.

And that's why 400ex rules! :huh JJ :blah

What kind of pipe did you spot weld on there? I think I might just have to do the same thing!:devil

Here's my deal. I can't seem to get these tie rods to to proper alignment. I was wondering if maybe something to do with something else in my front end? If anyone can give me any info that would be great! Thanx

I just went to Lowes and got some of the gas tubing. Make sure the tierod just fits in the tubing (close fit). Get two pieces at least as long as the tie rod so you can cut the end so you will be able to adjust them still. then weld them up and spray some black paint on them and your good to go. as far as your alignment goes i was in the same boat you are up until a couple days ago. No matter what i tried i could'nt get my bars to be straight. first you can try if you havent already is to measure from the inside of your outer nut on the tierod to the inside of the inner nut on the tierod and make sure both side measure the same. somewhere around 9 7/8. or you can measure from the center tread on the front of the left tire to the same on the other tire and then measure from the center tread on the back side of the left tire to the center tread on the other tire and it needs to be at least 1/4 to 1/2 toe in. give that a try and see if it works.

Thanx I will have to give that a whirl, I think i will also try something else I have seen on here. It has to do with levels on both tires and on the bar. With a slight toe in I sure hope that this works for me!:D I am starting to get a little tired of this ajusting and never getting anywhere :grr I will reply if it works!
