Help with Main Jet Install

Hi, was cleaning my 300ex carb and when I removed the main jet a small piece fell out. I know where it goes, just not sure if I put in upside down. I think its a needle jet, is it supposed to protrude slightly into the venturi chamber area. Its number 2 in the picture. Thanks for the help, Mike -

i believe one end of that is a little longer than another. i think the longer end goes up in the carb first.
