View Full Version : FasstCo Flexxbars Product Review

Colby@C&DRacing

The flexxbars manufactured by the Fasst Company were born out of the need for a more compliant handle bar. Conventional handlebars transmit unwanted and sometimes potentially harmful forces to a rider’s upper body, arms, and wrists. This in return causes rider fatigue and has the potential for injury from an aggressive impact. The Flexxbars are designed to dramatically reduce the impact that is felt with the conventional bars by allowing the bars to pivot in a downward motion on the right and left side. Conventional bars will flex, but not enough to have the same effect as the Flexxbars.

Photo 1 (http://www.exriders.com/vbb/attachment.php?s=&postid=1256277)

Flexxbars are a 1 1/8” aluminum bar made by using CNC machining technology, and are also constructed with a hard anodizing finish for strength and longer wear. The bars come in three different widths, Quad consisting of 31” wide, full size bike which are 32” wide, and the Mini bike (50's, 65’s, 80's) handlebar is 29" wide, these bars also offer two different sweep offsets: 14 degree is close to a stock Yamaha, and stock 2003 Honda bend and 12 degree is slightly less sweep than the 14 degree bar, as well as two different heights at each width and sweep option.

The Flexxbars are tunable, meaning you can change the amount of force required to cause the bars to hinge. This is accomplished by changing the colored bushings called elastomers, which mount between the center section of the bars (where the crossbar pad is located) and the outer part of the bar where the controls and grips are located. The elasotmers come in four different strengths Blue=Soft, Yellow=Medium, Red=Hard, White= Stiff. All the bars are shipped with Yellow, Red, and White elastomers except the Mini’s are shipped with Blue, Yellow, and Red. The rise of the bars is also adjustable and is accomplished by placing the supplied shim (washer) in the elastomer pocket.

Installation of Flexxbars is just like any Conventional bar. You will need to remove the existing handlebars and associated hardware including clutch lever, kill switch, front brake assembly and throttle assembly. You will need to install a 1 1/8” bar clamp to allow for the use of these bars. Once the bars are in the clamps, position the bars to be comfortable for your riding and tighten the clamps and reinstall the necessary components.

Back in February of 2004 C&D Racing competed in the 1st round of the Maxxis 6 Hours of ATV America. Our team consisted of myself (Colby Kostman) my wife (Dusty Kostman) and my brother-in-law (Chancy Tomlinson). We enter the B Class where we finished 2nd and 19th overall out of 26 teams. One of our major problems was Chancy had major arm pump after 1 lap and was only able to run 1-2 laps at a time the entire race. Chancy has been battling arm pump for several years. In planning and preparation for round 3 of the Maxxis 6 Hours of ATV America we knew that if Chancy was going to be a part of the team again we would have to find ways to alleviate his arm pump and rider fatigue.

After reading an article in a Dirt Bike Magazine describing the Fasst bars and their benefits. C&D Racing contacted Fasst Company and discussed with them the problems our team encountered at the 1st round of the Maxxis 6 Hours Race. Cole at Fasst Company explained to us these bars were developed to absorb most vibration, reduce arm pump and hand fatigue, and lessen the effects of braking bumps and hard landings (This also got my attention since Dusty has broken the same wrist/arm twice from the impact of a hard landing). We felt these bars would be very beneficial to our race team and Cole Townsend partner and founder of Fasst Company was more than gracious to send us a set of Flexx bars to use and evaluate for round 3 of the Maxxis 6 Hours Race, this course consisted of roughly 5.5 miles of natural woods terrain, an mx course, and fast fire roads that were rocky.

After receiving the Flexx bars and installing them on the Honda TRX 450R that we used for round 3 in the Maxxis 6 Hours of ATV America we found the bars to be very comfortable, and the sweep (bend) felt no different than the CR High bend we were use to running. These bars are very unique because you can see them pivot but hardly even realize they are pivoting while you are riding. These bars also eliminate a tremendous amount of vibration. During the 6 Hours Race our team members did not experience any arm pump or any injuries due to a sudden impact from jumps. We have also ridden numerous Motocross races and participate in the Iowa harescramble series with these bars and have never ridden with this level of comfort before. The bars have greatly reduced our fatigue and have allowed us to ride harder and for longer periods of time. The hardest part about writing this review is describing how the bars feel for example, you know your going to hit a washout or land hard off of a jump, you anticipate the hard hit and jar, but in the end virtually nothing is felt.

The Flexx Bars by Fasst Company are one of the best products that I have used on our atvs in a long time. They do exactly what they were designed to do. They are priced at $299.99 retail and are a great investment for a racer or a weekend warrior.

For more information contact Fasstco at 562-602-8119 or www.fasstco.com or C&D Racing at 402-614-2508

300EX rida,

There is no reason they won't work with the GPR.

In fact, a friend of mine has a set installed with a GPR stabilizer on his 470R. The quad will be featured in a magazine soon, so hopefully they will detail the steering system for everyone. The GPR fits on the stock 450R stem using cam type inserts where the stock bar mounts bolt in.

I don't know how close the 400EX to 300Ex stems are. However, I know the 450R stem shaft is larger, but the base plate where the bar mounts bolt up, looks very similar to the 400EX if that helps you.

Not trying to confuse, but I don't have any pictures to help explain.

Yes the bars will work with the scotts and the gpr dampners. You just need to tell us that you are using one of them when ordering so we can get you the right crossbar pad.:)

Colby@C&DRacing

The bars are designed to reduce arm pump the stabalizer is not it's function is to control the movement of the bars and make them less twicky, this does affect your level of fatigue but not the way the flexx bars do. You really need both the bars and the stabilizer if you are wanting to rid yourself of arm pump .

how are they in a roll over
im just concerned that they will bend right after i buy them the next time i crash lol
i really dont want to spend that kind of dough on a disposable item such as handlebars unless they will withstand a crash or two
thanks

being of modular design each section can be replaced if damaged. kinda like a hiper rim of the bar world:p

PhilMoore
10-15-2004, 08:44 AM
Yes the modular design is a wonderful idea! If you break a part of the bars it only costs about $100 (plus shipping) for each section.

I haven't crashed since I got the FLEXX bars. Of course, I scored down about 2 places in the last race. Mostly because I didn't want to crash and break the new bars...

to me the Flexx bars would have LESS of a chance to bend since the rubber peice in the middle would allow them to stretch and whatnot correct?

If you get the quad version which is 31 inches wide, is there plenty of room for all the necessities as in kill switch, brakes, clutch, throttle assembly, etc? Can you measure the length of tubing for mounting so I know how much room there is? Also can I still get the 269 with grip deal? I've got a race this weekend and might have to get a set.

Ive been reading the posts about these bars, talking with riders who use them etc.

I finally bought a set. I bought them just like anyone else, because I wanted to be able to say they were total junk and a waste of money if I really didnt like them

I finally got a chance to ride with them and im sold. you can add these bars to your lists of things that actually help you.

i finally got a set...and i used the red elastometer, which i felt a big difference but i think the yellow will be better for the bumps and ruts in the trails...but if you are MX'ing i would deff use the red cause i had some pretty hard landings off a few jumps that i was thinking "oh man this is gonna hurt" but i didn't even feel it....here's a pic..

I was wondering if you could mount the Acerbis handgaurds or not.

Maybe Acerbis or Fasst could develop a bracket for us to use with our Handgaurds.

Thats the only reason I have not purchased them yet, I wanted to still be able to use my Rally II's with them.

I run the acerbis rally 2 also on the flexbars you will have to modify how they will mount on the bars as with most of the handguards on the flexbars with the exception of the powermadd

right now i have multi fractured wrist and im out until december 21st with a cast on, Then in 2006 the first worcs race is january 21st so i have a month once i get out of the cast. the doctor told me that i shouldnt ride for about 2 or 3 months depending on therapy, so im thinking about getting flexx bars and im hoping that will cut down on the pressure to the wrist...what do you guys think? yes or no?

I know it's a year later but what's the price of these bars now? I broke my hand in July and after it was healed and all the rehab I went through I can't get two laps into a moto without wicked pump in my right forearm. I've tried everything and if you cats say these bars work than what the hey. I just can't race next season with this arm (racing isn't fun anymore and that's the only reason I race).

the ones I got look pretty damn tall but I don't mind they work great, I had my shocks revalved by Allen White and I got a precision stabilizer, and my Flexx Bars and my bike has never worked better, I can just charge into braking bumps and square edged holes and my hand stays clean on the bars the whole time, I have no problems with my grip and the WORCS race at Lake Havasu this last weekend was a perfect first race for my new set-up because Havasu gets really rough really fast, all rocky sand whoops, I got tired but thanks to the bars and stabilizer and suspension I could hold on longer and keep the quad working harder and ended up 1st overall and 1st place Sport 15-29A class. I think the Flexx Bars are great and definitley helped get me there!

You would want a 14 degree quad bar.

What does quad bar mean? 31" wide and 116 height, or just 31" wide?

About 6 months ago i took a good jolt on my right wrist and ever since than it seems like i have slight limited movement from side to side. Wish i had these then...
