Do not put 400ex arms on a 300ex. Get arms that where designed for the 300ex. Elka's will do wonders for your 300ex even if use the stock arms.

You will need an upper shockmount bracket to make them fit. I have a similar setup with +2 a arms made for the 300ex and it works great! You can use stock 300ex arms too. It basically works like a long travel front end. Just make sure to have the shocks valved for the application and the type of riding you do.

Here is an example of a bracket with 400ex length shocks setup for the 300.

I have custom Elka's on the front with a shockmount bracket and Burgard +2 a arms. I also have a rear Works shock with Elka zero preload conversion. I am still running the stock motor with a Sparks X4 and a modded airbox and UNI filter. I also have a few cosmetic goodies.

Hey Jeff, no offense, but what's wrong with 400ex arms on the 300ex? The only issues I know of are the new top mount and resolving the lower ball joint stud/nut contact on the arm at full droop and full lock. If those issues are addressed, it makes a great package doesn't it? Or am I missing something?

The 400ex front end also messes up the camber and caster. It also throws off the angle of the tie rod which will give the front end more leverage against the tie rods causing major bumpsteer. Try a search and you'll find a million reasons from Jeff and Bradley and others as to why the 400ex conversion is a bad idea.

Thanks Bradley. I'm pretty happy with it for now. The Fullbore made it look sooo much better. I'll be turning it over to my wife in the spring though. I may step up to a 400. As soon as I can unload the Trailblazer:o

Ok, I guess opinions have changed since I did my 400ex front end on my 300ex quite a while ago.

http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s+&threadid=32542

I won't dispute the bump steer issue (change in toe as the suspension cycles) because I haven't measured it as some of you must have. I trust the bump steer is significantly worse. That's bad.

But caster and camber changes, if they do occur, will be less with the longer 400 arms than with the 300 arms. That's good.

Is the expert opinion now that I am better off dumping my 400ex arms and replacing them with the stock 300ex ones? I can certainly do that if that's the consensus. I just want the best bike I can have.

I'm sure the Elka's will be WAY too stiff in both spring rate and damping because the shock will be more vertical, and the leverage ratio of the 300ex arm is considerably less than the 400ex version.

I believe the 400 arm mounts are further outboard compared to the 300's. The +2+1 I have for sale would work better than stock but it actually "increases" the leverage ratio over the 400 arms so you will be softer, at least thats what elka told me during the build. Let me know if your interested in the arms, like new!

my opinion and that of thequadshop is to buy +2 300ex a-arms, 4+1 wheels with a 400ex mouinting bracket on the frame with custom shocks for the set up.(this will get you with in a half inch of stock 400ex width) lots of people have doubts about how well it handles with a more vertical shock, but trust us, we have done ALL the research and there is not a better handleing 300ex out the than one with a quadshop LT design. thequadshop even has a sport class gncc championship to prove it
