on a 300ex do you have to take the gas tank off to rejet. where on the carb is the jet

the mainjet is on the bottom of the carb. there is probably a large nut (probably 14-18mm) on the bottom of the carb. when you remove this, the mainjet is right in there. so, if a 300ex has this you won't need to remove anything but that. however, it may be hard to get too.

No you dont have to remove the tank ,loosen both clamps on the carb then turn the carb "top of it" towards the exhaust so the bottom is facing the starter take out the 17mm drain plug and the jet is right there!
