When i bought my 400ex used , it had no airbox lid, a fmf power core exhaust and it is jetted. The 400 runs real good but i dont want to take it in water without a lid. can i just put one on like it is (jujst for fun in the mud and water) or do i have to re jet? I wont mind a little power loss if thats all it will do.

If it was jetted properly with no lid then you will most likely have to drop a jet size to run with the lid. You should only lose a little top end power by putting a lid on.

If your just gonna throw it on for one ride here and there, it will do nothing more than richen it up some. You may loose a little power, but not much. Put it on before you leave to go riding and ride around the neighbor hood first to see how it runs. That will tell you right here;)

I run an outerwears airbox cover instead of a plastic lid on mine and have no problem with mud, water, dust or anything like that. You might want to try that before you try a regular style lid, it probobly wont make as big of a difference in the jetting.

Does the outwears lid allow water to pass through?
im sure no mud can get through.

I say pull the drain plug and run it.

I take that statement back if your doing some serious water and mudding but otherwise.. like Nike.. "Just do it"

Thanks for all the help. i think i will try an outwears lid and see how that works.

I've never had any problem wiith water coming through the outerwear before, and where I ride theres a lot of creeks and the mud is really watery.
