Hey guys, My buddy has a Z400 and we are going to jet it for open/cut airbox. I made him buy a dyno jet kit, but I was wondering what jetting everyone is running on these bikes. His bike is stock. Also is there a way to uncork the exhaust to give it a little extra power.
Thanks,
Joe

I've got a 155 in mine with no lid and a slip-on. Although it sounds louder, when I took my spark arrestor out it felt slower to me. I think he'll like the increase in power with no lid, it's definately noticable.

HMF slip-on, 165 main. K&N filter w/Outerwear. Modified airbox lid with 2 GT Thunder velocity stacks (vent holes).

put a jet and a new plug in it and take a wide open throttle test run shut it off and take the plug out. A good plug is brownish and lean plug is white and a rich plug is black. Either that or get it dyno'd but that costs money.

I ahve been watching the jetting post for a while as I have a z with a full yosh pipe . I have it jetted now with the DJ kit . I have just bought a K+N and a ehs lid so I will need to rejet again.
Most people( on the z400 site) are saying not to read too much into the plug , They have good jetting and still are darker , when the get it brown it runs bad.

Just a different opinion

-Sparks exhaust
-K&N filter w/ flange, No lid
-Mikuni 170 main
-Mikuni 25 pilot (soon to be installed)
-DJ needle w/ clip on 3rd notch
-Fuel screw 3.5 turns

BTW, make sure you remember that Mikuni rates their jets differently than DynoJet.

I have the dyno jet kit and it had a 146 main in it with the lid on and cams and full HMF which sounds quite lean. Now I have the lid off and a 416-440 to go with hot cams and a fulll HMF and my airfilter is a pro-design. so Im gonna go with a 165 main its a Dj jet, and wats the diff between a DJ jet and a mikini jet?

go to Alba Racing (http://alba.buyol.com/Item/LTZ-JKIT.htm)

You need a stage one. I like the needle that they provide. I installed a stage three on mine to match my mods and I love it. It was dead on.
