I have heard a few talk about a tranny gear mod done to the 250x when building a hot one. Can anyone explain what needs to be done to the tranny or give me an idea of where to look to find the part numbers in need?

The only tranny mod I have heard of is a cut tranny.... Its most popular on Banshees. Not positive if you can do it on other quads but I dont know why not.

Its so you only need to use the clutch to start after that you just shift.

Thanks for the input, but I believe it has something to do with the type of gears used, I believe they swap from the 300ex but don't know which ones or what the difference is.

i think back in the day TC used to take 250x trannys, take out the reverse gear and put in a 6th gear or somethin like that

That sounds very interesting and I might check into that, but I think 3rd gear is weak in the 250x and you can swap in another gear that is stronger.

On my 493, FDO had the gears back cut and shimmed for stronger engagement and more engagement. The effect of back cuting is a tranny that shifts very fast and positive, I really like the results.
