View Full Version : Is this plug too lean or just right?

I wanted to insert a picture of my spark plug but cant figure out how. Anyway, I cant tell if the plug is light gray or a whitish color. It really probably depends on the lighting. There really isnt much color at all on the spark plug. It nearlly looks silvery. Anyway, I am running a 152 main jet at 3300 feet with 80 degree avg. temp with a Unifilter and Powercore IV slip on. Everything else is stock. Does this sound like it might be too lean? It looks really close but I cant really tell. I can send a picture if anyone can tell me how to put it on here.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Sorry if this is an inconvenience. Im doing everything I know to check the plugs and jetting. I am just a poor college student that cant really afford to keep guessing on $5.00 main jets.

Thanks

I have a Pro Circuit T-4 slip-on and a K&N Air Filter w/Outerwear @ about 1000 feet and I run a 155 main.

So my main probably needs to be higher than that since Im at a higher elevation. Is this assumption correct?

That sounds about right. Maybe drop a 155 in and check the plug just to see if its better.

440exkid,

Are you saying the 152 sounds about right or something higher than a 155? My quad runs good with a 152 in it, and its really hard to tell if its lean or just right on the spark reading. So just trying to get accurate info before I go and spend more money I dont have.

your plug should look like a carmel or a light brown color ..and thats wehn she'll be runnin right on the money....

I knew it should be a caramel color to light brown, my only question is will it be pretty obvious as in no guess work? Its hard the tell the exact color of it right now so thats why Im asking.

Thanks for all replies.

Incorrect.

Higher elevation means the air is thinner, less dense, less oxygen. With less oxygen, you want less fuel, so you want to go DOWN on the jetting for higher elevation.

So somewhere around a 152-155 should be about right for me?

It's running good on a 152 but just needs to be a little richer I think.

I'm thinking that a 155 will be good for it.

with just that slip on and filter (air box lid on) a 152 should fine. if you want to run the 155 you can, you just won't notice much if any difference.

Just another thought that might help a little. Before putting on the Unifilter, I had just the slip on and Stock air filter. The main jet was a 150 and ran fine. Do you think the 152 and/or 155 is still ok?

It was just hard to tell on the spark plug how it was running. It was a grayish color but there wasnt really a lot of color at all so it was hard to read.

Hope this helps.

yep, 152 or 155 should be just fine ;)
