How much does is cost to get your crank stroked and what kind of benefits would i get from this? Also would i need to upgrade me setup that i have right now to make it reliable?

If you have never rode a stroked motor you should try it some time. They pull very hard and the ones I have been on and owned, the power curve started out much lower and just keeps pulling harder and harder all the way to top end. I feel it is one of the best ways to get "usable" power, but is not the cheapest power source.

I am currently having my spare crank stroked, I can't wait till it gets back for the winter rebuild.

ghak99 how much is it costing you to get that crank stroked? And also who is stroking it?

Laz @ GT thunder is doing the work. He seems to be a great guy to do business with and has very good customer service. Go to the links page and find is web site and shoot him an email. He should get back with you in a matter of hours with the answers to what you need to know.

I am in the process of having my crank stroked by powroll. They do a 4mm stroke and have the option of putting in a tough rod for added reliability. They have a good website at powroll.com and are very informative as to any questions you might have if you call them up. They answered every question I threw at them and was more than happy to to it.

As far as power goes, stroking your crank is one of the most expensive mods, yet also one of the most effective. They are typically in the realm of $500 for the crank work alone, but that's not the only cost associated with them. In order to get to the crank, you have to split the cases, which always means replacing at least the bearings, some worn out parts, as well as gaskets, and that's if you do the work yourself (which I don't really recommend). Send it in to a shop, and it's a couple hundred in labor, plus all those parts that need to be replaced. All told, you could be in to your stroker crank easily $1000.

stroke it and worry about the price later

if your going to build a motor
spend the money and do it right

dont go half way

your 406 piston with a 4mm stroker

will absolutely murder a 440 piston

i seen stroker ex's in the 50's

i had a 426 piston and a powroll stroker

it was one tough ex

i won the open c class in 2003

i pulled 8 holeshots that year at the nationals

that was against big bore 250rs raptors banshees

450ex,
I'm about to get a Powroll stroker, and thinking about going with 426 piston. Hope you don't mind answering a few questions... Did you go with the tough rod? If so, which piston and did you have to get the skirt shortened? What compression? Any problems?

Thanks!

Stroking your motor will add about 0.5 compression. So an 11:1 becomes 11.5:1. This is because compression is calculated as the displacement divided by the combustion chamber volume. Basically, the displacement is 11 times bigger than the combustion chamber volume.

When you stroke your motor, you are increasing displacement. A normal 11:1 compression piston is calculated using the stock stroke length. With a larger stroke length, you get a higher compression.

I can bore you to death with the math, or you can just take my word for it. ;)

I have a 465 trinity comple job and it pulls so hard you wouldnt believe. Although i was running a 14 tooth front sproket before when motor was stock, I am going back to 15 or even a 16. Dyno'd at 58 pones.:D Its bored to a 440 then stroker from there!!!

That's insane!!! How fast is your quad!?!? Sounds sweet! Is it at all reliable???

Its crazy fast. With 14 tooth sprocket it tops out at like 65. But man it gets there extremely fast. Thats why I need to go to a bigger front sprocket. I will be taking it to the dunes in about 3-4 weeks and will be taking a 14, 15 and a 16 tooth gear to see what I like best. 14 I'll be in 5th and full throttle too long though. I have a speedo on my quad because its street legal and cruising in 5th is only 30mph, lol.

Street legal??? That's awesome. I wish you could register an ATV over here.

Not the best idea, Ive gotten pulled over so many times because there are so many that arent that its not funny. But its nice when I can leave my yard and ride to the ridings spots vs. Put it in my truck.

olimj,

i grinded the bottom of the skirts off the piston

it was a low compression je

crank was absolutely great

dont have to cut any cases or gears or anything with a powroll

i had a 41mm fcr

big cam, full head port, bigger valves, shortened guides, springs,
hardweld rockers, ported intake, lrd big bore exhaust

after racing i used it for a trail and practice bike

held up every day

still outrun my 450r
