I have an 87 250x, it seems to take forever to warm up and will sputter and want to stall even with the gas on. It also seems to take at least 5-10 kicks to get it started even after it has been warmed up.
Has new plug, cleaned carb, newer aftermarket CDI.
Bike is bone stock.

Any idea's, I am getting ready to sell her off and I really would like it to start and run top notch.

Thanks

You may need to adjust your valves. Make sure your jetting is correct. The 250x/300ex's have always been known for being cold blooded. Go up to a 40 or 42 pilot jet and you'll have much fewer problems. I am running a 42 in my 300ex for a couple months and I haven't even needed the choke. Also make sure you have the proper plug and it is gapped properly and your air filter is clean and oiled(not overly so). If all that doesn't fix it you'll have to dig a little deeper. You could have worn rings or a worn timing chain and tensioner. Hope this helps.

Just adjusted valves, suprisingly they were bang on!
Adjusted Decompreser as well.
Bike seems to have good decent power and no smoke, I think motor is in good condition.
Doe seem to run better, bit more power with air box lid removed. Maybe I am abit rich?

Thanks for the input.

My 250x was never cold. The only time it takes 10 kicks to start her up is if she has been sitting for a month.

Has it always been this way? Have you changed anything that would create this problem?

Have you done a compression check on it?

LMAO!

If mine does not start on the first kick something it mess up. It doesn't matter how long it has been sitting it fires right up.

Same here. I can't believe how good that motor starts up. It's bone stock, with a plug that is way too old, and I don't ride it much since I'm at school, but whenever I go home it fires right up.
