Holeshot Question?

I ride a 400ex, what gear do you MX racers use at the starting gate for the holeshot. Any tips on how to get good holeshots. Just wandering, im using 1st gear on my stock bike now. what do you guys do?

i do mine in 2nd with 14/36 gearing (300ex) and 18in tires and i lean up with my nuts on the tank and once the gate drops on on the back of the seat trying to get traction to the rear wheels and i just give r hell down the straight and try to be on the inside in the first turn.

hey 250ex king i have sumtin u should try me and my freind both have 300ex and we start off in 2nd gear but my freind hell give it about 1/4 throttle and when the gate drops he doesnt pop out the clutch but he lets it go and give it abot 3/4 throttle and he gets out of there quicker because his tires dont sit there and spin the hook up and take off try that

second gear,1/2 throttle and lean forward. That's with a 13/38 on my Z with a 440 kit. And then follow what out_sider said.

2nd . i also cript to the gate as well. as soon as thoise lights go off im already rolling towards the gate and when it drops ..im gone

Heres what I like to do seems to work pretty good... Takes a lil to get good at it though.. I start in 2nd gear... Get my clutch were its about to release and the 4-wheeler is just wanting to creep ahead and I look for sumthing on the gate that moves befor the gate is going to drop all the way ( gate pins or whatever u can find) I bounce it off the rev limter in 2nd gear and when I c the sumthing move on the gate that I have my eye on I dump the clutch and go like crazy.. Just takes sum time to get timing down with a whatever u look at on the gate befor it drops so u don take of and hit the gate.... :devil: not good... lol and u can find out were to sit on ur quad so it dont do to much of a wheelie... but just work on it and it takes time for it to come... and sum people are just lucky and go like hell and do good... lol But have fun with the holeshot... what does every one eles do?

I start out in 1st gear with a 416 and 15/37 gearing. I never let off the trottle as i pull in the clutch to shift. I keep it pinned and rev the hell out of it as I shift like crazy. Everybody does it different.

i put my quad in 2nd and let the clutch out a little bit so the rear end moves up a little bit and its about to move ilean forward a little bit and rev it 3/4 throttle and i hold it on all the way into the turn not hesitating at all unless there a possiblility of a crash. ive gotten the hleshot once but im usually up there in the top 5 outa the hole.:cool:

Here's one for the XC racers.....I can never seem to get the wheeler fired up before everybody else. It fires on one revolution, even hitting the button a second before the flag drops I'm still usually 3rd off the line.

start out in 1st, and then shift threw, But when u shift pull the clutch in, and never ever let off of the throttle, If it hit the revlimmiter, then let it bounce, Just hold it to the throttle stop and u will do pretty good!!!!!!!!!!
