raptor or craptor??

ive head from some they love them....ive heard some hate them...so whats the deal how are the new 05's? im thinking of gettin one i heard the trannys suck the valves and the radior gotta be replaced and they handle badly....whats the real deal from some of there riders and people that have ridden them.?:) :confused:

I rode one for the first time recently. Don't expect the transmission to shift as smooth as the 300ex. The handling is similar to the 300ex with MUCH more power. I thought the power made it difficult to turn in tight trails because it wanted to lift the front wheels and push too easily under power. You can get used to it though. It also felt a bit tall. The power was nice but I can think of better quads for the money.

they are nice but tall. If you get one then someone told me that if you lower the bike then it will be a bit easier to turn, not as tippy. Also look for some suspension changes, that will help too.

I did a 1.5" lowering kit on a 04 about 2 weeks ago and it made a big diff, alot better handeling.
personally I would get a YFZ450 for the money alot better, and has the power to out run a Raptor anywhere!

i really dont care how they compare to YFZ or topspeed the mods i have planed are : HMF slip on +3a-arms LSR axle elka triple rates renthals nerfs and everything else.....i talked to someone with an 02 and he said that it was a great quad as long as you take care of it.....but if anyone else has any opinions pleasse post them!

i ride everyday long and far when im home after a new clutch and la deginds one way there isnt another quad i have ridden that i would rather have. Yes i have ridden the yfz and the 450r. I just didnt like the yfz and the r is nice but i like the feel and tourque of the raptor better electirc start kicks *** too.

there ok...but i had an 02 and it was at the dealer everyother weekend for something stupid...but if thats wat u want your gonna have to put alot of money into it especially to race mx. for trails its good...but idk..

my friends is 2 years old and the tranny is screwed the piston is fried the valves are messed and the bearings go on it like every month. i would say get a something like a predator because i have heard nothing but good things about them and now the 05's have reverse and front shocks wiht rezzy's

Yep, you're right! And you came to the right thread for this... ;) Now that said, I agree. I have a Raptor of course, like it, but I would rather spend the money on a YFZ. The Raptor sits while I mostly ride my LT250R. Now I'm going to bed... at my age, I require more sleep... :o :p

I don't like the riding position the seat offers. That is just an opinion though. They are not built for MX but with some shocks, a arms, axle, and some good tires you will be fine.

i absolutely love mine , its only tippy if you dont use body english , it has great power , extremely reliable ( people who say its not probobly either have an 01 or dont know how to m aintain it ) the 01's have a **** trans....01-04 in some cases have one way problems ... but i havnt so far , just stay away from 01 and you'll be fine

Yep, that's what I've been saying about the Raptor. I have an 01, so far no problems... hopefully it continues that way! ;)

I like my raptor as long as im not trying to turn, i got a longer swingarm so it wouldn't wheelie, and now it pushes really hard in turns, like everyone is saying there are much better quads for the money, and the suspension will never be any good. If u still want a raptor im selling mine for cheap. Call

Yes, some of the 01 Raptors had some problems... some don't like the width and ride height of them, that is more of a rider preference issue. But your 400ex is faster than a Raptor? yeah, right... remember... hugs, not drugs. :)

I love my 01 Raptor and would not have anything else. Like any other quad MAINTENANCE is a big issue on these things.

When my starter sprag started to go, I tore everything down and replaced that cheap spring that holds everything together with 2 o-rings like stated on Raptor Tranny.

Have not had any problems other then that. I am 260 lbs. and I have no problems jumping it, or turning it.
