Would an oil cooler for a car transmission work for a 400EX? It is the same set-up just a larger oil cooler, probably slightly smaller than a normal sized radiator for a quad. I plan on boring out my 400 sometime soon and it gets very hot here during the summers and overheating is a major issue, and everyone knows the 400EX loses power quickly to heat during races.

I did that on my 250x and it worked great, much cheaper too. I'm about to build my 400 and plan to do the same. Any idea as to the best way to plumb it in?

the easiest way is to use the stock fittings and just cut out the hose and and new flexible hose

K, thanks. I thought it would work, looks exactly the same just you would have to mount it differently and get new lines, but I just wanted to make sure.

When I was at the NADA auto parts store, they had different sizes for the different sizes of vehicles and hauling weight. I would get the smallest one for the smallest hauling weight, which is still quite larger than a 400EX stock oil cooler. I believe it was about $30-50 too, pretty good for an "aftermarket" oil cooler.
