Near as I can tell it's about $1000.00 for front shocks and A-arms and another $600.00 to $800.00 for a rear shock, my question is this, I'm a weekend warrior who rides (trails) very hard about once a week (if I'm lucky), What is a $1800.00 suspension going to do for me?

What makes a $500.00 aftermarket shock better than a $140.00 stock shock?

The different between stock and aftermarket shocks are amazin. It makes it possible to ride through terrain faster tahn you would ever imagine with the stockers.

I think you need some elka shocks.

I would checkwith C&D Racing 308-368-7805. They are cheaper than the quadshop.

Works shocks should be o/k for you unless you ride/race really hard. Get the rear rebuilt. I spent alot of time in the pits at the races asking racers how they liked their shocks and reading up on them before I ordered mine. You get what you pay for in shocks. If you see yourself riding/racing really hard in the future go for the best brand shocks you can reasonably afford. All of the guys I talked to that had the the Works shocks said they are night and day better over the stock shocks. Most of the pro/A/B riders run Custom axis or P-E-P. When I asked how they liked them, all of them said they rode good. Theres not alot of Elkas out there yet but the guys that had them really liked them. From what I learned at races in three states, I don't think there is a night and day difference between the the top shock companys, mostly personal preference. Heres a good shock Q&A link http://www.motojoe.com/atv/shocfaq.htm

Thanx for the web site that'll answer a lot of the questions I have, one more though, you rebuild the rear shock, who does that, what do they do and what's the approx. cost of that?

A lot of People Rebuild the Rear Shock. You could have PEP, Elka, TCS, Marcum`s, or just about anybody do the Rebuild. It depends on what Front Shocks you get. Go to the Quadshop.com and look at the Elka Rebuild. Most of them have a New Oil, Valving, Spring, and more. The Price depends on who does it and what they do.

C&D Racing all the way. I ordered a set of elka's from them and needed them by april 12. Martin(from elka) sent my fronts to me express 3 day shipping from Canada at no extra charge. C&D sent my rear rebuild fed-ex 2 day at no extra charge. Great prices. At c&d you pay $25 for shipping and that's it. Cheapest I have found. Plus the fronts come directly from the factory in Canada. Also martin send the exact specs (springs, etc...) for your rear rebuild. I really like knowing that my shocks were set up by elka themselves. Also I spoke with Martin and since they have been working with Chad Duval( and others on the GNCC series) they have made some postive changes in there valving and set-up. I really think elka is making a serious push to be the best in the business. It is nice to see a company have such good customer service and drive to improve their product. The one thing that really stood out about Elka and C&D is that they didn't treat me like a nickle and dime local xc racer( which I am). A shock purchase is a huge investment(a third of what I paid for my bike). It is nice not to feel like just another customer. I really felt like they took their time to get my shocks right. Can't say enough about their service. And I haven't even tried out the shocks yet. They come in today. CJ

Jeff,
Obviously the 400ex rear shock is rebuildable, what is involved with that, when you're done with it is it basically a new stock shock or a better then stock shock?

Warriorman i got fron triple rates with ssd and compresion adjustibility. And got the rear rebuild. I just installed them last night and took them for a test run. I am going to reserve my coments till after I race with them this weekend. But at first impression these are some serious shocks. CJ

Let me know how you like that Setup Cbrown. That is the same Setup I want to do. I want the Front Shocks you have and I think I will get the Rebuild. What are you Racing, MX or XC? Let us know.
