changing my oil today...question

ok, this is going to be my first oil change in my new 450. my questions are...how many quarts of oil do i put and in what sides of the motor do i put them in? also, what is the best oil out there? i was thinking about just using GN4. Its about 70-80 degrees here for the next month or so. thanks guys for your help.

I used Golden Spectro 20W50 full synthetic in the engine side and Golden Specto 80W 2 stroke oil in the transmission side. I used the semi-synthetic in the engine side for about 4 oil changes until in was fully worn in IMO. Then I switched to full synthetic in the engine. I changed the oil for the first time after an hour of riding and then I changed it again later that same day. You put 780cc in the engine and 600cc in the trans. I change the oil in the engine every time I ride. I change the oil filter every other time I change the oil. I change the transmission oil every other time I ride. It is cheap insurance.

hey trx450, how often do you ride cause changing it everytime seems like it would get exspensive....I was just wondering cause i ride probably 4-5times a week...

for breakin change it alot and no synthetics for breakin. If i ride 4 to 5 times a week i would change once a week. Clean air filter every ride;)

I only get a chance to ride once a week.

i ride 4-5 times (about 1-2 hours each time) every week & change it once a month

I put a lil' over 3/4 quart in the engine side and a lil' over 1/2 quart in the tranny side...sorry I dont have exact CCs but TRX 450R Racer has it right. I use BelRay Thumper 20w-50 semi-synthetic in both sides of the motor and absolutely love it. It holds up very well....the GN4 stuff is really good oil for the price but ya might be changing your oil quite often. It seemed to break down pretty quick when I was using it.

I ride my quad mostly MX so its FULL THROTTLE most of the time when I ride but the Thumper holds up well, I change my oil every 3 races or which is about once a month. If I get to practice or free-ride, I'll change it a lil' more often.

It all depends on how much you ride and how hard. If you are riding 4-5 times a week like ya say....might want to change your every week or 2 weeks. CLEAN YOUR AIR FILTER once a week if you are riding that much too.

well i guess ill be the tester on its reliability then cause i change mine every other month no matter how much i ride i run lid off and its been a month or so since i cleaned that (i put some oil on it that i cant get off my hands so i havent wanted to mess with it ) anyway i guess ill be testing how good the honda name stands to the punishment
