rotating motor counter clock wise

to set cam timing it says to rotate the motor counter clock wise, so this means when i'm facing the fly wheel i turn it counter clock wise? i put my quad in gear and turned the wheels the same way they would turn if i was riding it,the fly wheel turned counter clock wise. did i do it right???:confused:
