ok, i've had my 450 for almost a month and the fan has NEVER turned on! i've seen posts about this before and still no fan...whats up with that? how hot do these things really have to get? I rode for almost 3 hours straight and this quad was hot lemme tell you, and still no fan. could i have a bad fan motor? help is much appreciated, thank you.
It would be cool just to see that thing running...

To test the fan, just run a jumper wire to the thermo-switch at the thermostat housing and to ground with the engine running. Fan should come on, if not, check wireing, switch etc.

It kicks on after about 4-5 minutes of ideling and in the 80s outside. It is quite you cant here it over engine noise , but you can feel hot air on your legs.

If I come to a stop and let it idle for a sec before shutting it down, I can hear the fan spin down after the motor dies.

mine comes on at least once every time i ride.. of course the ambient temp is over 100 right now, so its no wonder things heat up a bit down there heh. go spin some donuts and it will come on.

Fans are a huge misconception with todays 4 strokes. They are not going to come on when riding at speed. They will come on when idiling or crusing around in second gear. The faster you're going the more air the radiator is getting so you dont need the fan. Dont worry about it not coming on all the time. I know many 450R owners that took off the fan completly. If it idled for 20 mins and then didnt kick on, then be worried.

I put a heatseeker gauge on mine because the fan never kicked on. I ordered one for a 400EX since they hadn't made one for the 450 yet. Only had 2 do 1 modification had to replace the stock hose with a step down sized hose because the gauge is smaller than the hose. Fan only kicked on when it got to 220 degrees. Gets pretty hot.
