Looks good, the reverse was needed (unless you ride dunes), for that you might as well have the 450. I don't know how many times I have used reverse on 250EX when cutting a new trail down in some deep ravine before straightening out to head up a steep hill. I can't believe it when I hear people say they don't need reverse on an ATV. You don't need electric start or shaft drive or water-cooling, but you do need reverse for many types of riding.

Good that it doesn't have water-cooling. Should be a dependable machine with much more use for trails.

Also should be available in Sept. according to the website.

I think its a big improvement and looks good but its priced back up even with the Z400 and with the improvements Suzuki made to their 05s I think I would want one of them instead.................................I'm sure glad now that I bought an 04 for a lot less.:chinese:

Not going to debate about reverse, because I am sure it has been hashed on many a thread.

Thinking ahead is smart, but what happens when you start into the mudhole and the front wheels sink instantly into unkown quicksand? Going forward would require a winch.

The ravines and woods I am referring to are very tight. Dry creek bottoms just a little wider than the quad, with straight up sides and only a few places to get in and out. Most is virgin woods with no trails as we are just now making them.

I wouldn't buy a quad without reverse. I would buy a dirt bike or quad without electric start, a bike or quad without water-cooling, or a quad without shaft-drive (o-ring chain is a must though).

If you are riding in the west, open desert or dunes well that is a different story.

I like the look and I like the idea. the plastic look the same to me with just the nose being different. Most people that race cut the headlights off and put a hood on it anyway. Now remove the lights and hood that is on there put a quadtech hood on it and it will look just like an old 400ex. Take the hood off put the stock suff back on and you have lights again. Much much nicer than the old set up!!!!!

EXACTLY!!!! I knew I like you for some reason, unlike the last patehetic set of plastic for the 4 hundy, once you cut the headlight out it's done, ont the new one it can be reinstalled if need be, some of you just don't know how to think outside the box :rolleyes:

the rear fender is indentical, the side panels are the same without the dents... and the front fender is the identical same shape... jut the front center is cut out:o put on a hood and stop cryin...

I think one of the crf's already has it, so it probably won't be far off. I'll stick to the kickstarter though, I had way to many problems with the battery on my old 400ex.

After 3 years on my 300 I still have to think about the revers procedure. I'm hoping the new 400's reverse is set up like the Z400's.

That was a very smart move to put reverse on the 400EX. I know many people who would've bought a 400EX if it had reverse. They should've upgraded the front shocks, maybe just use the ones off the 450R. Other than that I think they've done the right things

i really dont like it. i never liked the look of the 450r and now the good ol' 400ex is ugly to. i really liked the old plastics of the 400. i never needed reverse on my 400 but thats still cool that they put it on there. now every time we see one well have to wander if its a 400ex or a 450r cuz they look the same:(

Not true, as person who makes a living working on hondas, and has, quite frankly, a lot of brand loyalty, hold them to a higher standard. As an Acura tech I see what Honda is capable of and expect them to excell in every field.
I look at it this way; when I buy something I buy the best product I can afford and do all the research to make an informed decision.
If I were to go buy a new car today, it would be a Honda product. If it were a new pressure washer, It would be another honda. If I wanted a motorcycle, street or dirt, most likely a honda. My lawn mower is a honda, and if they made a chain saw, (and it were better than a Sthil), Id have bought that too.
I expect Honda to excell in every way if they want my money for a given product. That being said, If i were in the market for a new recreational quad to replace my 400EX, it would not be a honda. Because there are at least three better quads in this class.;)

I really wanted to buy a Honda too, but I bought a Polaris Predator instead. I honestly feel that I have the best trail bike on the market now.
