My engine guy told me that I would have to resleeve my motor if i want to put a 426 piston in it and that if it was just bored out it wouldnt be good for the motor. The problem is i cant find a 426 sleeve anywhere, only 440's. They say the 426 is faster than the 440 so i wanted to go that route.

Please help

any input is appreciated!!!

don't need to sleeve it for a 426, but its the last bore. what bore are you on now?

ask C&D (site sponsor), im pretty sure they resleeve the cyclinder when they build 426's.

actually no you dont need to resleeve....not needed like deathman says....it is however your last bore...so if you blow your topend you are either going to have to get 440ex bore kit, or your going to have to get another stock cylinder and have bored to a 426 again.....but go ahead and go for the 426ex...u won't be dissapointed.

Thanks!
I'm getting an oversized oil res to try to keep the temp down and also air scoops. It is the original bore as of now.

we do carry a sleeve for the 426, it is not necessary but recommended the cylinder walls are pretty thin when going to the 426 and can cause excessive heat.

if its on the original bore, go to a 406, JUST the boring to a 426 doesn't make much more power, power is in the cam, head and exhaust. those stock cast marks are ugly and the vavle seats have a horrible lip to them.

sorry to bring this thread back but its better than makin a new 1. 426 is the last bore on the stco sleave so people say that if you pop the top end you now need a 440 kit or a new cylinder. can you/ why cant you, just resleave the cyclinder for a 426 or is this not possible

there is a common misunderstanding on which bore is best. if your on a stock bore, i would just go to a 416 or something similar. it is just easier than resleeving it out. i have a resleeved 426 and i haven't had any problems but it is just more work than having yours bored to a 416.

now, saying a 426 is faster than a 440 is a bit incorrect. you can build a stock bore bike to be much much much quicker than a 440. it has to do with how you built it. the compression ratios, flame travel, cam, exhaust, carb, jetting, etc are all determing factors. the key is go get everything working together.
