Serious Problem... Please Help!

Right after i changed my oil and filter today i started my 400ex up to circulate the oil through out my engine and the long bolt that keeps the oil filter cover on popped off

turns out the bolt ripped the thread right out and i was actually able to unscrew a WHOLE piece of the thread off the bolt

so now i cant bolt my oil filter back up and because of it my ex is stuck in the garage broke down

any advice on how to fix the problem would be greatly appreciated!

Heli coil or re tap and use a larger bolt.

id retap it.

The threads on the 400 are very touchy, you need to be very careful with them.

here is the problem with re tapping it

the actual thread does not begin untill about 7 inches into the engine so how can i only tap the back part without tapping the front part... i hope you understand what i mean by that

after doing my research on this site it seems like my options are keenserts or helicoil except i dont know how to use either one or what size to order

i feel totally helpless here and i hate it!

Just go to any bolt supply or auto parts store and take the bolt with you they can measure for the correct thread pitch.I would helicoil it myself.
