i stand the bike up on it's hind tires and grab bar and remove the little factory skid plate (saving up for baja's, and that little thing catches so much dirt and mud anyways). then i spray the chain with wd-40 and wipe it clean with a clean wash rag. then i put SAE 90 gear oil all over the chain, on top, bottom, and on the sides. my hand usually gets pretty damn greasy but i think i'm doing the best i can do for it.

^^^ that's why i remove skid plate. pic #2 is right after greasing it and that thing builds up bad.

i use wd-40 on my chain just because belray is just too sticky for sand and dust, it just sticks to the chain.

WD-40 is a good way to go. Not only for your chain but also for your frame. WD-40 will help keep your frame from rusting. I aslo use it to clean spark plugs, clean my chain, clean my motor, etc. Lot of uses with WD-40. I also like to use the 3 in 1 silicone spray & white lithium grease (in a spray can). Look up WD-40 web site it may give you some tips.
