The early 90's toyota pick-ups make awsome off road rigs. Don't forget about jeeps eather, the wrangler, cheroke and grand cheroke all make great off roaders.

Sounds like a good deal to me, But I have no idea how it would perform though.

If the toyota is a 5 speed it will have plenty of power. The farmer I used to work for about 10years ago had a 89' reg. cab 4x4. He would pull full wagon loads of small square bales (128 bales x 50llbs each)! Granted this was in 4 low. Was it hard on the truck? Hell yeah, but it still was impressive to see.

That truck looks awsome. And you don't really need a/c You can live without it. I'd say get it.

i know you said your not a ford fan, but if you can find a older ranger the lifts are really cheap for them. i think for right around 500 bucks will get you a 6in lift, same with the older f-150s. just a thought

Consider a suzuki samurai! you can buy and mod them out to be unstoppable for less than $3k. They are in their own class of cool.
Just a thought;)

ok i have decided what i want. 73'-87' silverado and 73'-79' ford truck. V-8, 4x4, surface rust is fine but no rotted panals. it would be nice if it is lifted or any other accesorys. under 5K. no engine or tranny problems. dont care about ther interior as long as it isnt all rusted out. thanks for helping me everyone I have heard it is best to look for a truck after winter...is this true? and keep bring in your opionons(sp).

why is that? incurance?

if i was you i would stay away from a ifs and stick with a strait axle much more easy to lift and way cheaper and i would say get a older jeep fix it up a bit paint it get some nice rims and tires and if you do end up selling it will sell for way more than a older toyota. jmo

prolly cuz they are gas hogs. and when you tow something it goes down just that much faster. but I love my 91 V8. its not bad on gas at all being an 8, extended cab short box

As far as toughness, you cant go wrong w/ a 4x4 73-79 Ford, as long as it's not completley ragged. Solid front dana 44, 9"rear, and NP205 transfer case, are some of the stoutest components you will find on any stock 1/4 ton.
