I have been using honda GN4 20w50 in my engine exclusively the whole time Ive owned my 400. I saw at the dealership today that they were out of the Gn4 in the 20w and only had the 10w. They did have the Honda HP4 in the 20w but that has synthetic components to it. I asked if that would be ok to run in my 400 and was told that it would be, but that once I used synthetic I would have to keep using it. Why is this? I never would, but lets say I wanted to TRY this mobil 1 red cap people speak of for an oil change or 2. I would have to keep using it? What is it about synthetic oil that makes you have to keep running it after using it?? Ive heard others say this as well, and would like to know if anyone out there has an answer...

synthetic oil basically stops the engine wear when using it. You have to break in the engine before you use it. I run mobil 1 5w-30 oil in my four-wheeler, I tore the engine down last week to send it off to the machine shop and it was in perfect condition. I've never heard from anyone that once you use synthetic oil you can't go back. I run that in all my cars and it's fine. on older engines that haven't ran synthetic oil your supposed to use 10w-30

you can go back from synthetic. i dont know a person out there that hasnt used synthetic once and then gone back. just dont use it in your clutch!!! the 400 uses the same oil for everything. its not like the 450r to where it has seperate oil for the trany and the engine, so i wouldnt use a synthetic on the 400. only because it uses that same oil in the clutch and you will burn up your clutch real fast doing that.

do you put synthetic in your clutch? some is allright but you dont want your clutch slipping. a buddy of mine just burnt his clutch up by using a synthetic blend oil. i think synthetic is over rated. i think using regular oil and changing twice as much works better. plus synthetic is expensive.
i said that b/c mobile 1 red cap does NOT contain any friction modifiers like all the other synthetics...synthetic rocks
