you'll love the blaster as a play around quad, and performance wise there 10 times better than the other two quads you mentioned

Well here's my take on it. Blaster's are good quads and cheap OTD but they are going to require a lot more maintenance becasue it's a 2-stroke so it is liable to cost you more in the long run especially if you ride it hard then you'll be rebuilding the top end every time you turn around. Also if your more than about #150 it is going to put a lot of strain on the already sub-par suspension. The Z-250 and 250Ex are pretty close to identical as far as specs and such go. They both have a better suspension(IMO) than the Blaster and will deffinately hold a heavier rider better as well as handle much better in the trails but they lack the power of the Blasty and will fall off in the straightaway. If your looking for something to go a little faster in the straights and don't mind the maintenance go with the Blasty. If your looking for a good trail bike that handles good, jumps decent and is virtually bullet proof than stick with the Zuk or Honda. FYI my 250ex has over 700 miles on it with nothing more than oil changes and lube.

But I must say, 250ex's are wheelie machines...

thanxs but i was now im thinkin bout mayb just getting a dirt bike instead lol like a 05 yamaha TTR125E or an 05 honda CRF150F casue there a little bit cheaper and i could ride it longer than the blaster cause teh blaster will get kinda small when i get older. so heres waht im gunna do prolly. buy the 05 Kodiak 450 auto 4X4 for the trails and one of the 2 dirt bikes for fun and stuff.:D

Your being Bias.
The blaster is very reliable, the suspension is better than the 250ex/z250

And a 250ex/z250 isn't great for larger riders either.

Well, if you keep em up their ok but you can't let em go at all or else they screw up left and right. Mine was ok because i did keep it up but my friend didn't and he had to turn the gas of to start it, it wouldn't idle most of the time and when it did if you turned it left it shut off. So they arent VERY reliable.
Still go w/ the blaster

:huh :huh hmmmm I know ours puts out WAY more power than my sisters 250ex & will give some R's a run for thier $$. You almost sound like a guy that challenged my son to a drag race in Idaho LOL, he thought the blaster looked like a POS I guess but he realized REAL fast once they took off & was EATING BLASTER DUST :eek2:  that he was NO competition we all just giggled ;) but to each his own :)

dude you have 8 grand....get a 400ex and trick it out...i hate blaster suspension ik im a pretty damn big kid but when i had my stock suspension it wouldnt bottom out to much but on the blaster i hit a 5 foot gap and bottomed out soo bad i dont think blasters are "all noise either" they can get alot faster than what they do stock....my friend had a 240 blaster with a bunch of stuff and he sold it to get a 300ex....badd desicon he said the blaster had wayy more power with the 240 and wouldnt have any problem beating a 300exas far as the 250EX goes...my friend has one and its alot of fun to just put around onand do some wheelies...also if your looking for a under-400cc sport quad dont rule out the 300ex man i love mine but like anyother starter bike you get used to the power quick but it still exciting IMO to ride it...i think the blaster/250ex/Z250 are all great quads and if i where you id ride them all if possible before you buy one..i would hate to buy a quad that i hate right from the get-go but i honestly think you'll be happy with any of the 200-300cc quads...as for bikes my friend has a DR-z125...he mastered the power of it in the first week and i have to wait for him on the trails all the time lol and the crf 150 is a little faster and fun but id go with a quad man!!!!!!!!

woah...srry i got carried away

later :D

The first time I ever drove a blaster was last winter and I was very surprised with the power it had for a little 200cc 2-stroke.
Its not as bad as everyone thinks they are.

Yep your right, the blaster will muder in a drag race, but that was the only good thing i found about the blaster, i just liked the 250ex better, jmo.

yea ive pretty muchly ruled out all 3 of them. i think ill get a 400ex and either a 05 Vinson 500 or a 05 Kodiak 450 casue the dealer said i can get the 400ex or Z-400 adn either the 05 Kodiak 450 or the Vinson 500 for $7,900

By the time you get a blaster fast enough to race you could just buy a yfz with the money and smoke it.

Never was a fan of blasters though...

And they don't"murder", in fact thy are pretty pathetic unless you load them up w/ lots of crap

FastestBlaster
09-27-2004, 04:18 PM
yea and plus i dont really want a 2 stoke cause i dont want to rebuild the top end

sMoKiNyFz
09-27-2004, 04:25 PM
ya don't have to always build the front end.
but 4 strokes have kicked out the 2 strokes recently and i have always preffered them. One word, Dependability::o then again theres speed too. are there any 2strokes hat can outrun a yfz or 450r:confused:

bradley300
09-28-2004, 08:16 AM
thses new fourstrokes arent really as "dependable" as everyone thinks. after as little as 30 hors, there losing thier snap and need to be rebauilt at least 1 a year. and a 4 strokes gonna cost alot more to rebuild than a two stroke

ROFLMGDAO!! thats a good one :huh my 300 is a 96 & it just had it's 1st as far as I know piston put in it!! And YES it had/has been ridden hard on a couple of harescrambles ect.

We've rebuilt our blaster about 2 times in the last 2 yrs. it is also raced hard, it's actually held up ALOT longer than most, it's funnier than chit when you send a worn out one on the track against all the "fresh" ones & it take the championship :) It will be getting a new crank/rod for this winter but we just did the piston & more porting a couple months ago!! It's best to rebuild a 2 stroke once a year at least if you ride/race hard I would think!!

09-28-2004, 02:59 PM
oh GEESH look @ that I read your post wrong Bradley:o I din't see the "new 4 strokes part" LOL, but our 2000 400 is just getting ready to have it's 1st rebuild :) she's blown a ring :(

The 300ex...better handling, more reliable, and a good all around quad

blasters are as bit quiker i think but not as reliable. They don't have that bad of handling either

IMO I would pick the 300 for the handling/suspension it's better than the stock blaster I think :) Also it has a little bit longer body than the blaster more comfy for me. My son also like my 300 better on the trail due to the smoother ride. And just the fact of having a 4 strk on the trail too, we have been looking for a 250x to get for him cheap but haven't had any luck our blaster is a pain to trail ride as it has NO air box whatsoever so that can be a pain but we still take!! Just have to be careful :)

the 300 is prolly the better all around machine, but the blaster is more fun in my book!

I dont see why everyone thinks that blasters are high maintance. If you ride any quad hard, its gonna wear out faster. sure, they wear out faster than a four stroke, but if you take care of it, it will last you a long time.

I am actually looking at blasters. I only want a blaster to ride on trails (NOT BEAT ON) so how long do you think the top end would last?

jesshamner
10-31-2006, 02:10 PM
Maybe they were more maintenance in 2004 when this thread was started. LOL. J/k.

The top end should last at least a riding season if you're not beating on it and you take care of it. Of course that depends on how much you ride it too.

not being a dick but if you are considering those bikes i'm sure your pretty young right? How do you have 8000 to spend on bikes? If you are new to this sport I would go with one of the 4 strokes, they are practicaly the same thing, because you are not going to want to rebuild a motor if you are not that experienced.

On the other hand both of those bike are turds. My friends little cousin has the crf and I could beat it pushing my bike. But hey if you are a begginer thats probably more what you want.

in my opinion get a utility of your choice and look for a nice 400ex used if you can handle it.

250ex, I have one and there great. Wheelie machines!!!!!!! I would suggest getting slip on pipe for a 250 though it will open the bottom end up alot.
