I just received two sets of Laker Custom Fenders for the upcoming Project 450R:D

The Fronts come disabled, but are easily attached together with two bolts and nuts provided with the fenders and a third bolt from the OEM fenders is used for attaching them together and to the frame.

The glossy finish on the fenders is awesome. These are definitely some nice looking fenders, and what I really liked the thickness of the fenders. Typically most fenders are really fine at certain points due to the molding, but the 450R fenders maintain a consistent thickness and seem rather strong and not brittle.

The Laker Custom Hood easily attaches to the left and right front fenders with the OEM Black fasteners for fast attachment and removal for cleaning.

The fenders fit prefectly on the machine without much effort. I had to removed some of the rubber gromets from the OEM fenders and transfer them to the Laker Custom fenders which is pretty standard.

The front fenders fit snuggly into place and all the bolt holes properly aligned for easy installation.

The two holes in the Hood are where two black push in fasteners go, but I left them out to show how well everything aligned.

Laker Custom offers several different color hoods, but one of my favorite is their imitation Carbon Fiber hood, which looks very similar to Carbon Fiber, but is extremely strong unlike the real thing. Hood are also available in Black, White, Red, Blue, Yellow and Silver.

The front fenders are available in either race cut or full fenders. The race cut fenders don’t provide much coverage, but I think they provide and awesome look to the machine. I will be receiving some full front fender to compare against stock for coverage and looks in the next few weeks.

Top View:

As you can see from the photo, the rear tires aren’t covered much by the Rear Fenders since they are 3 inches narrower on each side than the stock 450R fenders. The smaller profile rear fender is popular in the southern west coast because most of the riding is done in dunes or on dry tracks, which really don’t require much fender coverage because mud isn’t an issue. Myself, I prefer more coverage because in the East, you normally can’t go riding on any day with hitting at least one mud puddle, but I the smaller size may not make a difference.

I will be conducting a test in Mid September to see the if the smaller size rear fenders makes any difference compared to a stock width fender.

Rear Fenders:

The indentation for the rear fenders provided plenty of room for the kick starter.

The Rears are only available in one size. They do cover less of the tire, but the factory Honda fenders don't really cover much of the tire as it is, so will the reduced coverage really make a huge difference in the amount of mud that would end up on the rider??? I am not 100% sure it. True they are 3" narrower on either side, but with a +2 or wider axle even the factory fenders would provide very little coverage from the tire debris.

From my experience, I can more dirt thrown on me from the front fenders than the rear because when you turn the handlebars one of the wheels will be pointing right at you with a spray of either dirt or water, but I still rather race MX with race cut fenders regardless unless it is extremely muddy.

I will do a test on if the narrow rear fenders really have any huge disadvantage when I get the 450R put back together. Currently, it is tore apart. The frame is headed to Burgard Cycle for gusseting and powdercoating and to be mounted with a swingarm and A-arms. The engine is off to Baldwin Motorsports to be built into a XC breathing Machine.

the stock lights work. They make a hood that fits the lights. Here is a pic of the prototype hood on my quad. Its now in production. :D
