no oil on the dipstick!?

the starter went bad on my buddies yfz, and since it went bad, for some reason, when we check the oil, nothing shows up on the dipstick. because of that, he added about a quart of oil and still showed nothing. when he started the bike, oil sprayed in the airbox and then the breather hose came off. there was about a quart too much oil, but the dipstick still showed nothing. anyone else not showing oil? any ideas why this is?

i've had the same issue on my yfz, after it sits for a few days (i rode a wk and 1/2 ago, been sitting since) and check the oil, nothing there. but don't add any!! start the quad, let it get warm, then check and add if any is still needed.

tried that, still none. no matter how warm or cool the motor is, still nothing in the oil tank. :confused: the oil lines aren't clogged, so what could be left?:confused:

not sure then.....i'd check with a mechanic
