which is better for trails? which has more horsepower, and torque? and which will win in a 150 yard drag with equal riders?

a while ago, my friend with a yfz450 raced a bunch of guys, the new honda 450, predators, all the big guys, yeah, him and the other yamaha's 450's smoked them, he is a great rider though, he had 250r's and raced them and won a lot, you should see him, but he thought the other riders stopped but they didn't thats just how far ahead of them he was.

my next bike will definetly be the yfz450. he said its taking a while to get used to because it is a lot wider than his 400ex in the trails when it comes to trees.

I would take a 400ex over a pred anyday. Definately the yfz or 450r.

FOrget some of the brand loyal replys you have gotten from the guys with their red sunglasses on. Out of all 3 for trails the 450r would be my pick, but for HP, Torque, and 150 yard drag race the YFZ is the clear winner.

Just for trails the 400ex is very hard to beat. You can find great prices on them too.

The R and the YFZ are not really trail/woods bikes, they are more "out-of-the-box" MX'ers. Hard on the body and a work-out on longer rides. The YFZ is high strung, and the R is smoother. My understanding is the 300ex and 400ex are hard to beat if trails are what your into. On the single track trails here in Maine my 300ex is light, quick, nimble and plenty fast for tree dodging.

I fully agree. My pred is MUCH easier to ride on tight trails than any Yfz I've ridden. I've heard the R is better than the Yfz, but have not ridden one so I can't give an opinion. In stock form the Yfz is too stiffly sprung with a solid seat, and as Miken said, rather high strung. Now granted once you start throwing elkas and taller seat foam on a Yfz it gets MUCH better, but stock for stock the Pred is a better ride.

"Not even Close" TC426EX??:huh I wouldn't go that far...... Maybe after the mods I mentioned, but not out of the box. And as far as thats concerned throw the same suspension on the Pred, and I'd be curious to see exactly how "close" it'd be.

And as for the 300ex, I completely agree. On REAL tight twisty trails 300's are GREAT! Small and nimble. VERY quick in the right enviroment. ;)

id say for trails get the 05 PRED.it now has reverse and 50 HP.. for MX get the YFZ

The 05 pred would be a good choice but if youre gonna spend that kind of money you might as well get a 450r or a yfz. JMO.

I have always been a honda man and I would pick the yfz over the r simply beacause it has more power and you can not beat an electric start. Gettin to old to have kick the damn thing over all the time. :D

ive ridden the 450r and i didnt like it. this kid i ride with let me take it out on a short ride.at high speeds it twitched like crazy, but it was pretty fast. i dragges kid on my modded z and could hang with him, i have a 15 tooth front sprocket also. well the kid is a prick and wont let me ride it anymore so i dont know how good the suspension or anything is on it, but i thought my z handled better. the yfz and predator ive never rode, and im aiming at tradin in my z for the new yfz since it seems to be the best for what i like to do.

HONDAS ARE BUILT TO LAST,
BUT YAMAHA'S ARE BUILT TO BE FAST,
NO MATTER WHAT POLARIS WILL ALWAYS BE LAST!!

hahah enough said

the yfz is the best quad ever built.

Take some advice from someone who has ridden them all, not these biased young kids on here that only believe what they read or what there friends tell them.

The predator is very fast and will hang with a stock yfz all day in a drag race, only loosing by a couple of quad lenths at best. It handles great and now will have reverse and better shifting and seat so for the trails I would definitely get one over the stiff and stall out happy yfz's.I liked the honda's ergo's but only having a kick start and no reverse really sucks for trails.Personally, go with a z400. You can make them just as fast, and they are at home on the trails and a lot lighter than the predators.

z400's are great quads. The preadator can and would destroy a yfz maxed out any day. I have ridden every one of those bikes and the yfz is mx only, they arn't as fast as people think they are. The yfz is mainly acceleration and bottom end power.

Some of you guys amaze me, I bet 90 percent have never ridden a yfz and are little kids typing what they have read. The YFZ is definetly got the power and stability over the 450r, but the 450R is great for a trail rider, but takes quite a few mods to be ready for MX. The pred can't even compete with either of the yfz or the 450r. Go with the yfz. oh and for whoever said the yfz is for all out MX, and bottom end power, number one MX is best to have mid-top, and go to a GNCC and checkout the starting lineups.

Why would you not want bottom end in a trail situation? The pred feels really uncomfortable to me. It feels like you are about to fall off the front of it. Thats just my opinion.

so would i be better off just keepin my modded z400? i love to drag my buddies, and i can beat them on my friends motocross track which i think is the most fun type of riding we do. and the the z has reverse for the long tight trails we go on and im glad for that, but is the yfz that great compared to the Z400 for the places i ride?

Nicely said. The subject should be 450r vs. yfz. I dont want to start anything but the yfz and 450r are a total new breed of atvs. It is hard to compare there "out of the box" performance with any other atv. Again JMO

The 450r is an awesome quad, personally i liked it a lot when i rode it, i felt it was more comfortable to me than a yfz, i'm pretty tall so i guess thats why. The predator is just too big and heavy, if they could make it a little smaller and lighter they would have something. Yes it may have 50hp, but u cant use it if u cant controll it and use it in all situations, i would take my 416 over a predator anyday.:bandit:

For everyones information I am 20 years old and yes I did ride the yfz, don't get me wrong it's a great bike but it's not that great in the trails. It has the stability but the 400EX is even better in the trails. These knew 450's are great but ill stick with my 400.

For more relaxed fun trail riding, the 400ex would be a better pick, but for balls to the wall GNCC type racing, the YFZ, or the 450R can't be beaten.

I have no problem using the power the pred has and I'd take my Pred over a 400ex anyday.... Just a matter of opinion I guess....:o
