if he gets a 2 stroke 250 then he can play with the big boys and not even have to do much mods, but it will be a lot of power so if he dosnt have much experience he should get a 125
thanks kamikaze. that helped a lot. so i guess a 125 would be perfect for him.

A 125 is a little small for the dunes. I have seen many 125 not come back from the dunes running. He should get a 250 or a 4 stroke 450. Just my $.02:cool:

450 4-stoke, i wouldnt go w/ a 2stroke. I know alot of ppl that have seezed(spelling) the piston after acouple of rides in the sand. i dont reall kno anything about dirtbikes tho. ill ask my neighbor . hes a dirtbike guru.
the problem is, hes pretty new to dirt bikes and dosent have a lot of money. he can only afford a used bike. buget is around 2 grand. up or down a few hundred. plus, hes short. he rode a xr250 and needed guided starts with me and my friend holding on to the bike so it wouldnt tip over. but its possible to adjust the suspension right? i guess hes going to go to gorman a lot but maybe a couple of trips out to the dunes. .............if only he were getting a quad this would be so much easier. ..

but its possible to adjust the suspension right?
That, and you may be able to lower the tripple clamp just a bit---I'm no bike guru so I couldn't go into details there, also I've heard of people shaving off some seat foam to lower the seat height a couple inches.

i'll say the same thing, in the sand a 125 is going to be under powered. lots of stress on the motor.
what twisted say get a 450 honda

i have a buddy that is around that hight and he has a RM250. his suspension is set up by pro action for his hight. but hes not going to get that great of a bike for 2grand. if hes not that great on a bike maybe he should try to save some money and get a 250 4stroke. they would be alright in the sand. my buddy has a yz250f that does good in the sand. but thats out at oklahoma.

here we go, ive been riding 2 wheels, 2 stroke 250 for the past 4 years and hae no probs. 90% sand riding in Glamis. bike is a 00 ktm 250exc.
a 125 has to rev high just to keep up, add to that the stress of the sand, and you have yourself a blown motor. not everytime, but it will happen.
i would not recommend anything under 250cc for a 2 stroke, and nothing under 400cc for a 4 stroke. when i bought my bike, it was my first time on 2 wheels in the sand, and i did fine. he'll pick it up.
as for heighth...cut the seat foam, or lean over. dont compromise power or suspension for ride height.
as for bikes, he can get a used yz 250 for right around that price, or a 96 kawi 250(bike of the year for 96). honda's are always a safe bet, but there is a year to avoid, and i can never remember it. i think it was the first year for the alum frame.
hope all that helps, if not check out www.glamisdunes.com and post your q's there too.
thanks guys......i told him all this and he kinda knows what he wants.....anyways........im really hyped up cuz we just got a new buggy!. sory to brag but its a nortstar v8 in a ag chasis...huge fox coils and all the blingin chrome....cant wait to try it...maybe my buggy will have a bike to follow
maybe my buddy* will " " ...lol........hes gonna be followin ME!
