I own a 02 4x4 Rancher and I its a rough riding quad (as am sure most 4x4 are). I was wondering if anyone knew if i could switch out the 04 shocks and put them in my 02. The 04 seems a lot smaller but rides much smother.

well, i don't own a rancher myself, but i know a whole lot about them, b/c my friend owns one. i would think that the 2002, and 2004 utilize the same mounting brackets, which should allow the 04 shocks to be interchangable on the 02 model. again, i'm not positive, but the only way to know is to try! plus, it wouldn't take too long to change them and try anyway! hope that helps somewhat!

You should contact your Honda dealer and ask them if it could be done, it's not worth all the effort and money just to find out they cant fit.

If you have the money get some Works dual rates and those should be nice. But if the money is tight ( like myself, looking for 450r front shocks. lol ) give it a try with the new 04 shocks.

I have rode a 00 Rancher ES, a 01 Rancher, a 02 Rancher ES, and my 03 Rancher ES 4x4 and I see no difference in the shocks on these so how are the 04 Rancher's better if they are the same.

my friends rancher's shocks got softer the more he rode it. if your 02 tancher hasn't been ridden much, than that can be the cause of it. my friends rides a lot better now than when he first got it.

Honestly, i couldn't tell you...I was talking with this lady at a place we ride at about her 04 Rancher and she said it was the softest riding quad she ever been on. We also went to the motorcycle show a year back when they first came out with the 04's ATV's and even in the commercials they were playing they were saying this is a softer ride either because of the shocks or suspenstion something.

I got a works rear shock for my rancher and it made a huge difference in the ride and handling. It was kinda a pricey for a utility shock in my opinion but it made a huge difference
