OK I want to upgrade, how tough is the kick starting? I ride trails mostly and need to decide on the new 400 or I have found a really great price on a new 450R or I think ($4988).

Thanks

the kickstart is very easy, i dont see why anyone would let the kickstater steer them away from getting the trx. mine starts 1st kick EVERYTIME wheather its cold or warm.

I have not had any chance to ride one and prolly wont unless I buy it so... is it trail friendly as a 400?

that sounds like a great price, i mostly trail ride too and love my r, no problems with the kickstart either. the best part about the kickstart is the girls dont want to ride it, they always jump on the electric start bikes instead:devil:

i geared mine to a 13/39, so now its really easy to ride in the woods. stock is 13/38.

I just got one on Thursday, and after a couple of hours on the motor it seems to come alive in 1-2 kicks.

Keep talking, can you compare it to a 400 if you've had one. I have ridden 400's and assume it is typical Honda handling.

$4988 is a great price! 2004 leftover, right?!? Jump on it before they're all gone!

After going to the R from a 400EX, I don't think there is much comparison as far as the handling. My 400 was more of a "slide through the corner" machine that seemed pretty quick to push while the R is more "point and shoot and slide if you like". I think the handling is MUCH sharper and precise. Maybe Honda kept the 400 a little on the numb side to keep less experienced riders out of trouble (that was me). Either way the R just rips it apart in all aspects unless you are hung up on that "magic button". It really does start easy. Please believe it when we say first or second kick. This is my first experience with a kick bike and I actually really like it. I keep thinking about never having to buy expensive batteries for this thing which is a nice thought compared to the YFZ's expensive and finicky affair.

I've found myself riding faster, cleaner, and with a lot less effort than it took to go slower on the 400. I am not a highly experienced rider by any means, but IMO the R makes me much better than the 400 ever could. After riding the R I feel like I just had to work my ***** off to be quick on the 400. It was a great machine, but there is a good reason so many are for sale!

i just picked up my r on friday, after a day on the track the bike in stock trim is def not a race ready quad by no means, i am way faster on my built 400 even with a mostly stock motor, this is only because my 400 handles likes its on rails. once my new quad is set up for mx there will be nothing to compare. the r rips hands down. and the starting issue, i can kick start it sitting down! it's EASY.

I noticed your from NE Ohio. If that price is from State 8 motorsports then it is not correct. The 4988 was for a showroom demo 450. It has been sold and you will be lucky to get one for less then 6200 out the door from there.

love my R and i can really say i would not trade it for any other quad out there. and im not being bios. im not one of those people that say honda is the best or yamaha is the best, because ive owned them both. i personaly now after having mine for a while and towing a few quads back to camp, can say i think one of the things i like most about it is having a kick start, plus i had a girl in flip flops kick my R over, and guess what, it only took one kick for her to do it. and that is absolutly no lie.

I don't want to mislead anyone so I better clairify that I was speaking in comparison to a stock 400EX. :D Stock to stock it just puts the 400 to shame.

i dont mind the kick starting, but when i stall or the piston isnt in just the right spot, my 450 can be a pain in the nuts to kick over
