This is my project 400ex...it's a work in progress. Im 17 and I just started racing crosscountry so I decided to make a racing machine...soon I hope to swap out that mere 400 for a CRF450...tell me what you guys think of her!

Woah that thing is super sweet, it's nice and clean too. What do you mean by racing cross country though? Anyway, have fun!

Looks awsome. I cant tell if you have an aftermarket axle but thats a must and I think its time for a new pipe :p unless you ride in areas where you have to keep it quiet. Thats cool too :)

Yeah I race harescrambles here in Iowa...and the pipe thing...yeah my friends give me crap about that but like I said before I might as well wait for the CRF450 motor instead of wasting my money. I dont have a after market axle yet but that is the next improve ment...just dropped 1,200 on the front suspension:p

...oh and if you guys have any suggestions on improvments on it just tell me...I plan on doing a american flag theme with a red seat, white fullbore plastics, and blue powder coated frame!

I havent used them much I just put them on...I went out to the track once for about 10minutes and that was enough to tell a huge improvement with handling in turns and having softer landings...I would suggest them to anyone!!!

...and yep that a PEP steering stabilizer:D

Alright the motor has a wiesco 440 kit on it, it's jetted and has a K&N...plus a 14tooth sproket.

-I cut the fenders by taping them off until I got both sides looking the same then I took a jig saw and cut them...I wiped off the burs and took a torch and slightly melted to edges to give it that shiny finish!

yes yes I know the quad needs a pipe...but im getting a new engine!

Why would you do such a thing?? I am corn holed on this one?? If you wish to have a 450r then go get one so you can have water cooling... ...but... ...if your 440 was built correctly you are not gaining anything! I really do not care what people say. My bore kit has been in my bike for 2 years now with no problems what so ever. It runs tremendously strong and any of my friends will tell you that there new shiny 450r's and z put out all they can to run tire to tire.

You might have looked into a yfz450 and then put one of the new 463 kits in it.

But dude you got one of the greatest bikes ever made. Just tweak the weak points and have fun. Dont waste your money unless your are going to get a whole new bike.:huh

The only way my quad would be a real "440" is if it were stroked...and it's not!!! To tell you the truth this engine is on it's last leg...about a year ago I put the 440 kit on and had a kid from school help me put it together in shop...well he forgot to put locktite on the cam bolts and it came apart a week later while I was riding and bent the exhaust valves....after replacing the cam gear, cam, timing chain, and valves I found out that there was still a "chunk" of metal floating around in there....needless to say 6 oil changes later all the crap was out!!!:D

-Im put the CRF450 motor in no matter what people tell me to do...why would I sell mine for a 450R when they have the same frame???

I'm sure you will anyways get new tires, but don't forget some 4x1 offset wheels so you can gain some room weaving through the trees.
