How come Custom Axis says you can't use a dual rate shock on the rear of a stock Z400, yet Elka and Pep make dual rate shocks for the rear. Does anybody understand this or have an opinion.

I asked axis the same thing and they told me they use progressive spring.

I am sorry I didn't know you felt so strongly about what ever it was that upset you.

I don't want to know why one company uses one and another company uses something different. nor do I really care which would work better.

The valving is so good that the rear only needs a progressive spring. Last year, when Bill and BJ Ballance were racing and doing the R&D on the Z, Bill told me about how good their shocks worked. He ordered me a rear and it was the best money I have ever spent on a quad. A stock rear has a 425 pound spring. The Axis uses a #225 spring. The valving is so good you can run a softer spring.

And I know own those Ballance shocks and work great.

Way better than the bucking Elka's.

Be careful popo, you will make the Elka gods mad around here;) I have had many ATV'S in my 40 years and I don't think any of they had a rear shock any worse than my stock Z! Ant brand has got to be better than the stock one.
