My oil ring is going bad, if I put in a new piston and rings, will it be necesary to hone the cylinder or bore it to the next size?

if the cylinder is not scared up, just have it honed a little to true it up. usually only takes a couple minutes. but if its scared really bad youll need to have it bored. i had more bored at E&G for 40 bucks.

if you get a standard bore piston then no but if you buy a piston thats bigger then standard you will have to get it bored

honing should be done every time rings are changed. if your going with a larger piston (in diameter), some boring will need to be done.

I was thinking about bumping up the compression on the stock bore, or getting the full 416/426 done with the cam, carb, flywheel lightening, etc.... More or less cheap way or big $$$ way. :p

Would the cylinder walls be scarred up if the motor is still running fine? I figured that would only happen if I seized it or blew it up. Is the honing some that you do yourself or should see a specialist for?

they will scar alittle even if it is not smoking. Honing is something the you can do. but the tool will most likely cost more that having someone doing it for you.
