Hey what exactly does a 14 tooth sprocket do? Would any of you recommend it? What does a 16 tooth do? What conditions would u use both for? Thanks guys.

a 14 tooth gives good low end but loses some top speed. a 16 tooth loses low end but gains top speed. 14 tooth are better for tight trails and wheelie stuff. 16 tooth is probably good for drag racin or riding in the high end gears alot.

Actually, just like in a car, you want a lower gear for drag racing. So a 14 should be better, the quad will be able to accelerate faster. Yes you will lose a little top speed but most drag strips for atvs are not long enough to use the top of 5th gear anyway. My son uses a 14 and starts in second gear.

DOD, Funwheeler is a good place to ride but right now most of the trails are under water. Which is ok if you are on a big tire 4 wheel drive. But for a sport bike it does not leave a lot of places to ride. They are having a drag race there this weekend with the open class having a $300 pot. I am sure my boy will be racing (not in open). There is another atv park about 10 miles south of there called Gator Run and they have pretty much the same kinds of things. They are starting a series of drag races next month with each race having a $1000 pot. Both places have web sites.

There are a few other parks around here but those are the two that I have been to.

So he has a 14t on the front? I thought his bike pulled pretty strong! At the last races i tried a 16t front and it sucks!! Starting in second i would just bog down big time. Even with the 416. Im going to stay with the stock gearing on this 505. it should have enough power to pull pretty good. I hope I get mine back in time to make it to the races!!! Gator Run is going to have $1000 pot??

If i put a 14th on my 250x would i loose top end? This is a stupid question but would I need a new chain if I put a 14th on?

If you are only changing by one tooth, you will not need to shorten the chain.

A 250x comes stock with a 13t... so if u put on a 14t it will be adding a tooth & with that raise your topend... lower your low end though
