I am wanting to get a 416 kit and a cam. I have about $500 to play with. I'm wondering which kit and cam to get. I do alot of hard trail riding, play racing, and dune riding. Right now I have a WB E-Series slip on. I will be doing all the work myself so the whole $500 will go to parts. I am interested in the JE 416 kit (can you get that at 11:1?) and the XR 400 HRC cam (is the copy just as good as Genuine Honda?). Any help would be appreciated.

i think all the kits come with a 11:1 compression piston unless you ask for a different compression, but i could be wrong. the 11:1 compression piston would actually be 10.8:1 unless you get a XR400 head gasket. i called XR's only about the HRC copy when i was shopping for cams. the only differance is the copy is a regrind but they say it works with your stock rockers. and with the copy you have to send them your stock cam.

My machine currently has an 86mm 11:1 and the XR400 cam. My dealer and a few others recommended the XR400 cam. Im not that happy with it. As it stands, I now have an WB's all around cam in a box on my coffee table. Im installing it next weekend. I dont recommend going with the XR cam.

I have one in mine now and its an improvement over stock but not much Im ordering a tc cam.I would not recommend the xr cam get the hrc or the w/b track cam if your trail riding you may want to look at the hot cams stage 1 cam or the all around w/b.

the 'all-around' cams are usally very similar to the XR cam...

Not if you read the specs on them they are about the same difference as going from a stock ex cam to a xr400 camm then your going a step above if theres not much difference then why not just run the stock cam.The difference you gained between the ex cam to the xr cam theres about that much between the xr cam and the majority of the all around cams .020 more lift is small but makes a differnce if it doesnt then why would people put 1mm larger valves in them every little bit counts.

The trouble comparing cam specs is they never specify how they are taken...

zero-lash ?
.050 (1.27mm) lift ?
.040 (1mm) lift ?

Makes comparing specs much like comparing apples and oranges.. I've seen 3 different sets of XR specs posted on the net so far.. Which one do you go with, and how was it measured?

Web cam actually lists two DIFFERENT sets of specs on their site for the 55-891 camshaft (the 450/451 all-around camshaft)..

What numbers to go with..?

I search for weeks on the net for specs on the XR cam. My dealer couldnt even help me out with it. I couldnt even find specs for the stock 400EX cam either.

Im tryed using a rev box with the set up I have now. I believe its the XR250 CDI. My machine doesnt seem to have enough to pull that extra 1000 rpms on the high end, so I removed it. I hoping things will improve when the WB all around cam is installed. Anyone have any input on this?

I have read some good things about the Web 450/451 all-around cam. Is there much difference between that cam and the HRC cam? Is the Web cam a drop-in or do I need to do any hard-facing?
