my buds and i are debating on what weekend to go to waynoka. i've heard that there will too many bikes there to ride without constantly having to cover your six at sand fest but i bet there will be just as many over labor day. which is the best weekend to go?

There are more sanctioned "happenings" at Sand Fest. Riding the dunes gets kind of hairy at times but CYA!

Sandfest will be a much larger event than Labor Day. Parking will be a problem at Sandfest.

we all agreed to go to waynoka the weekend of sep 17-19th. any one else going to be there?

when is sand fest....im planning on being there sept30-oct3 and i want to avoid it

Sandfest is Sept. 11th weekend!!!

im sure it is hardcore.....i want to actually have room to ride, and enjoy my weekend. sure it might be cool to see some of the quads and buggies. but if im going to spend 6+ hrs driving, i want to ride

i agree,thats why we are going up the weekend after sandfest to ride.

go during the week if you ever get a chance you can have the entire place to yourselves. Best time to ride.

Last year it was crowded, but if you ride early in the morning and around dinner time, and avoid the areas around the gates, there isn't too much problem. Certainly not like an 'average' weekend where you can see 3 dunes away with nobody in sight! Those are the best.
I compare the area around the main gate/dragstrip to like being in the main channel of a crowded lake on 4th of July weekend, boats haulling butt crack in every direction! We stay pinned to the fence until we get to the trails or open sections. Night riding is the most fun at Sandfest. I can hear my wife now...."ohhhh, look at all the pretty lights....."

Please don't take offense - but stay home. That way my group has a better chance of getting a good campsite!! :D
