View Full Version : 400ex or 250R

After 15 hours, the 300 is just not enough bike to have fun with my buddies who all have banshees. I need to trade up but i need some opinions on what would be the better upgrade. All i do is ride pismo dunes so i don't care too much about woods riding. i have ridden the banshees but don't like the way they feel, both on and off the ground. Should i take the time to find a nice modded 250R or just go trade my 02 300ex for the 400ex at my dealer. Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated:D

If your riding with banshees then the 400 might not be enough. If you modify it then thats a different story. You don't like the way it feels? Try a 400ex. I think that you may like it better. If you like to ride, get a 400ex. The 250R (when modified) will rip. I have seen posts like this go on for months. My advice is to try a mod. 400 and a 250R for yourself

if you ride pismo you should go with the R. two-strokes just do better in sand

Since u are riding in the dunes and u ride with banshees i would say to get the 250r just because it has more speed, but since u have a 300 u might want to stick with a four stroke machine.

Go for the R. Don't worry about mods. A solid running 250R will give you exactly what you are looking for. Plus if you want to take it to the woods or anywhere else it will do fine. Just carry a spare plug and keep it rev'd nice and high. (thats how they like to be treated)

In a perfect world, you could do this. I love my 400, and I mostly ride at the dunes. A modded 400 can certianly raise some eyebrows at the dunes, but I think the 250r would be the way to go.

yeah i know,,,,,,,but i do happen to have both,,,,,and in the dunes in oregon my slightly modded atc250R was a blast to rip through the sand,,and so was my wifes 86 TRX250R....but the 400 was fun to,,and it was stock,, so i really cant make up his mind so i said both:confused: ,,,

well, go to www.cycletrader.com, fill out the crap, pul it calli, and her will be a flood of 250r's, i found o sweet ones, then saw they wer in cali

Can anybody tell me what the factory specs for shock travel and HP is for the 88-89 R's. Are their any inherent problems with the different years that the R was produced so i can look for them when i start actually shopping around. The 400 would be the easiest to get but for the price, i'd rather have a modded R than spending much more to upgrade a stock 400. Thanks again for all your help:D
