The N.Q.R.A. rolled into Potomac Speedway in scenic Budds Creek Maryland and racers from all over the east coast attended.

Early saturday morning the weather was humid but the sun was shining bright. By noon this would change drasticaly and what was perfect blue groove was turned into something more remenisant of a GNCC race!

Promoter Randy Dinkens and his crew worked it all out and the race was completed right at midnight! There were some beautiful machines at this event and some top class riders.

If you missed this race be sure to check out the next N.Q.R.A. event planned for Labor day weekend!

The machines at these events never cease to amaze me. This R is immaculant and the rider didnt ride it easy!

This was the first TT event ive ever attended and I really didnt know what to expect. I was blown away seeing the speeds in person and more then once found myself spitting roost because my mouth was wide open in awe. Watching these guys enter a turn from 5th gear pinned and pitch the quad sideways was insane.

A mobile dyno was at the track to help riders tune and just to see who had what:macho It was full of people watching the dyno runs all day long.

Here a very built 300ex based quad is being run

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:24 AM
It didnt take long before open practice started and I got my first eyefull of TT racing

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:27 AM
The first few quads on the track encountered some mud but it quickly got rolled into a course that they could really hammer on

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:29 AM
Soon the tires were hookin' and the speeds increased as the riders and the track took shape

Thos rider works this corner as the rider in the background heads for turn 1

25

Pappy

Rider #911 had his Z400 absolutley flyin!

27

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:35 AM
Riders would be on the track for 5 laps then another group would be allowed on. It was interesting watching the racers learn this track and I enjoyed watching every turn!

29

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:39 AM
Not only did the faster riders quickly emerge I had to learn to try and get more then 1 quad in the picture. It didnt take me long to get the hang of getting these guys on film:macho

Pappy

#145 "Billy" works his vintage LT500 on the course. Seeing the "Zilla" pull in the newer quads brought a tear to my eye:devil:

31

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:44 AM
This particuliar corner was fast! Each lap as the riders became warmed up and the track broke in they would hit it harder and harder

35

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:46 AM
My ears picked up a different engine sounds and after I snapped this picture I knew why.

Amanda Slaton sends her 520+ KTM quad into a 4 wheel powerslide at 70 mph lining up for a corner:macho

38

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:50 AM
The practice turned into mini -races and the riders were having a blast!

52

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:52 AM
What a difference a sway bar makes in this type of racing. This rider was deffinatley fast but would be faster with more of a TT set up.

Im looking forward to learning more about TT racing, I believe them boys corrupted me:eek:

54

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:54 AM
The next lap around this rider leaned a bit farther to the inside and simply blasted his way around the corner!

57

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:56 AM
Sway bar or no sway bar the riders adapted to this course and the speeds just kept getting faster!

59

Pappy
08-22-2004, 07:58 AM
I was learning, a Tap of the brakes, a tug on the clutch.....and a whole lotta throttle:devil:

60

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:00 AM
Rider # 344 showed up in mx ready form, and wanted to see what this TT stuff was all about. It didnt take her long to get in the groove and she had a great time racing finishing 3rd, 5th and 9th in 3 different classes!

62

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:02 AM
Another lady racer hit the track and boy she was hanging it out! She raced with the men in the main and finished a solid second.

84

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:04 AM
I sure didnt mind having room to move around for pictures. This was alot different then shooting treebashers:p

82

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:06 AM
The R maybe dieing in GNCC but its alive and well in TT.

85

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:07 AM
Hybrid quads were in full force also!

88

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:09 AM
#777 had a good night right up to when his chain snapped with 2 laps to go and running in the top 3:grr:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:11 AM
The roar of the quads died down and onto the track came the youth riders. #1 NQRA youth rider from last season hit the track on his LT80

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:13 AM
 CODY! what are you doing with a XC set up in a TT race:devil:

This was also Cody's first TT expierence and he his HOOKED!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:14 AM
This little 80 was pimpin.

Tonight wasnt his night tho, as his engine gave up:( 8 years and it finally let go...ya cant beat that!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:17 AM
After getting a few lasp in Cody started picking up his speed. He loves riding in the snow so I figured he would be ok. The tires we run for XC made him work the corners but by the end of the night he had set his sights on bringing home a 1st place finish:cool:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:19 AM
Chase also was attending his first TT and first race! He had a great night taking the win in 90cc stock!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:21 AM
Another good thing about TT, there isnt any rocks in the roost:D

135

If i raced TT mine would say "Pass with care":D

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:30 AM
One after another the quads just kept getting better.

144

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:32 AM
Before long the mini's were back out. Rider #4 on his tricked out 90 took his class win and did it in fine style.

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:33 AM
Cr power for this rider!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:36 AM
Each practice session Cody kept getting faster. The #4 90 was the one he needed to stay with and learn from and he did all he could do to make it happen. Although in different classes the main event was what everyone wanted to win

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:37 AM
Tucked in tight!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:38 AM
#911 was all about going fast!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:40 AM
This banshee rider powers out of a turn

205

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:41 AM
Getting the slightest bit out of the groove just didnt help:p

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:43 AM
#13 sets up for the next corner

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:45 AM
I am not a big suzuki fan, but when done right they are right there with any other quad!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:47 AM
Dont let the pink fool you.....fast just begins the description of this rider and that quad!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:48 AM
Exiting turn 2 the quads flat hauled *** down the back straight

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:50 AM
It scared me...but she never lifted:p

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:52 AM
Its is just plain crazy to think how far quads have come in the last 20 years

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:54 AM
The 250R is still a potent package

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:55 AM
The new R is getting the job done

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:57 AM
#38 looked plenty fast

Pappy
08-22-2004, 08:58 AM
If im not mistaken he finished 3rd in his class

Pappy
08-22-2004, 09:00 AM
Randy Dinkens on the inside battles down the back straight with Amanda

Pappy
08-22-2004, 09:01 AM
Randy suffered mechanical issues and was unable to compete:(

Pappy
08-22-2004, 09:03 AM
If only KTM would step up and build a quad like Amanda's

Pappy
08-22-2004, 09:05 AM
Side view of a killer quad and an excellent rider!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 09:07 AM
dont look at me young man...cody is coming:devil:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 09:10 AM
#4 was very smooth. he had a little more then we did and as we found out...TT = power:p it was a great race no matter who won.

Pappy
08-22-2004, 09:12 AM
Cody finished 2nd overall in the main and first in his class. Good job CJ:macho

Pappy
08-22-2004, 09:18 AM
Well, we had another great time at another N.Q.R.A. event as we have come to expect. Randy Dinkens and his crew put on a great event so if you can make it to one you wont be disappointed.

I have hundreds of more pictures and I will get alot of them posted soon.

Dupontster
08-22-2004, 09:31 AM
I live like 10 minutes away if that and I missed it. That sucks. Looked like a good time though.

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:29 PM
911 was looking strong all day.

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:31 PM
#98 on his R

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:32 PM
I believe my ears will rimg forever after this race, it was loud but man did they sound good!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:35 PM
The skies continued to get increasingly darker as the mid day approached

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:36 PM
The 400ex is still a potent competitor in the right hands

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:38 PM
Although the hybrid quads are damn nice, stock based machines have no trouble hanging with them.

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:40 PM
I could be wrong, but I believe Amanda's KTM is housed in a stock 250R chassis

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:42 PM
Several riders were so smooth my job came easy

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:44 PM
Once the riders got into a rythm it was time to change locations. They would hit the corner the same and each picture I took looked like the lap before

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:46 PM
I can tell you that the KTM powerplant had plent of "grunt"!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:48 PM
Oh man...rain drops:(

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:51 PM
Not being knowledgable about TT tracks I didnt know what to expect when the first rain drops came down. The riders just kept hammering so I kept on shootin':p

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:53 PM
This rider looks up the straight as he pilots his quad around the last turn before a full throttle blast!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:56 PM
It was also interesting to see the differences in set ups

Pappy
08-22-2004, 04:59 PM
dayglo and a zilla....man does that bring memories back

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:01 PM
zilla or not, this yfz was wanting him for dinner:devil:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:03 PM
i wouldnt want to be run down by these fellas:p

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:27 PM
One very clean R

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:28 PM
This white yfz looked awesome. everything was white:p

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:30 PM
My eye was always on the KTM. it seemed flawless

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:32 PM
another shot of the all white YFZ

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:34 PM
this little 90 ran and handled great. the rider was very smooth and deserved the win he got!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:36 PM
300ex that flat hauled the mail!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:38 PM
I didnt have to look far to find a quad sliding around a corner:p

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:39 PM
another angle of that 300

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:41 PM
yfz with the hammerdown:macho

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:42 PM
someone call 911:devil:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:44 PM
out of the groove and you were done

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:46 PM
he didnt go all the way around but it wouldnt take much to lose positions if this happened

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:48 PM
anyone have a radar gun:devil:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:50 PM
it was fun watching the quads hit the banked corners. i believe this rider is staying low because he is running knobbies

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:51 PM
exiting turn 2 wide open!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:53 PM
sure looked like fun:D

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:54 PM
sometimes the perfect picture just happens:cool:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:56 PM
you just got to love power:macho

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:58 PM

Pappy
08-22-2004, 05:59 PM
Amanda hammering down the back straight

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:02 PM
Amanda setting up

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:04 PM
#24 slamming thru the course

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:05 PM
i thought the course was laid out pretty damn good!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:07 PM
I really liked this white on white combo

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:09 PM
I am pretty sure this is Randy Dinkens on a borrowed quad

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:11 PM
Before the rain hit, a few heat races were able to be run

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:12 PM
and here they come!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:14 PM
#28 boils the tires as he heads for the front straight

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:15 PM
and the hunt is on!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:16 PM
hitting a corner too hard, this rider goes off course and looks for a safe way to re enter

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:17 PM
and #807 takes the win

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:18 PM
another heat takes off!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:20 PM
a good run off this corner and its wide open for a long way:D

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:21 PM
#24 and #2 battle for the lead

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:22 PM
#2 won the battle

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:24 PM
#24 looks over just in time to see #211 taking the inside line

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:26 PM
#24 held the position but the battle was far from over

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:27 PM
#2 pulls hard down the short chute as #24 & #211 are bar to bar

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:28 PM
#2 had the win if she didnt make any mistakes

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:29 PM
#24 won the race to the turn

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:32 PM
it was a great heat to watch!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:33 PM
#77 had his cannondale hookin' up

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:35 PM
after a few hours of rain, the track needed to be rolled in again. this lead to a few unlikely match races:eek:

the dodge won:blah:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:36 PM
lets NOT throw a mudball at Pappy:grr: :blah:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:38 PM
i am sad to say that Randy dinkens was hit with the mudball after making faces at the golfcart driver:devil:

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:39 PM
the old chevy was no match for the Kia sportage.

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:41 PM
Cody was begging for them to have the Main right then and there. he figured being used to riding XC this was going to be great!:D

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:42 PM
the track was ready for racing to resume in no time

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:43 PM
this 300 was getting it done!

Pappy
08-22-2004, 06:45 PM

I only live about 45 minutes from budds creek. I was going to go up and give TT racing a try but I only have 22" holeshots on my raptor and didnt want to risk hurting myself because my atv is not set up right. I only have 1 more XC race left in the season after that I will try anything.

that guy is dave white and the dog is his girlfriend, debbie's dog named Sacilia. I call her a spoiled mutt. That dog gets more attention from debbie then dave the boyfriend gets. For that matter she has even kicked him out of bed before so the dog can sleep in the bed.Now thats a s[poiled dog. But she goes to every race and is the team pet.I know that they will be glad that she is finally on the web site because they have been bothering me at work every so often tonight for me to check and see if she was on there yet so thanks because now i can get some work done seeing that i have to be here until 4 am. Oh yeah
YOUR WEBSITE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chase gets a pre-race pep talk from his dad. One thing this sport does is draw the family together.

This was an awesome race...the promoters, staff and riders were all very welcoming and professional. It was great to experience a TT race. Normally I ride the motocross portion at Budds... so this was a little different... but alot of fun. Thanks for the great pictures Pappy!

Hill - Tulare is a great track with some real fast quads. Knobby's or Hoosier's.

Hey Pappy,

Don't you have pics of the riders on the podium? Would be nice to "meet" the people without their helmets or covered in mud or roost.

Good coverage and nice pictures. Anyone racing with the Rekluse auto clutch that you know of? If so how did they do and find the clutch?

Pappy

i left at midnight, which at that point most of the riders had already picked up thier plaques and were heading out.
