Come on:rolleyes: thats an emperous(sp) scorpion. They are not piosonous and they make great pets. You can hold and pet them. It takes a set of balls to tame one you have to hold them everyday. You'll need a black light to keep it healthy(helps build oil under its shell) It cool in a black light cause it will turn florecent green. I had one as a pet when I lived in cali. I feed him crickets until he got big then pinky mice then full grown mice. If I held him in my hand his pinctures started at my fingure tips and his tail ended just past my wrist.he was about 8 inches long. take a sponge and keep it wet for it to drink from. I named mine Boodrow. He was a very cool pet. If you scare them they will sting you! It hurst like a mother but won't kill you. I got stung once, it hurt but I didn't even feel sick.

They pack a nasty punch. The emperor(sp) (big black and hairy) scorpions may kill small rodent, cat or small dog. The others could kill a person

I would have to agree although I don't know for sure that it is true. All the piosonous scorpions I have seen had very small pintures.
My pet scorpion had massive pintures! He would grab my fingure and sqeeze so hard that it turned the tip of my fingure purple for a second or two.
They are awsome hunters. It would take to long to explain how they hunt their food but they are really smart. They hurd the prey (more or less) into an area that it will become trapped and they prefer to eat the prey head first. They don't sting the food they crush it with their pintures.
They have 4 eyes, 2 in front and 2 on top. They have a very tiny set of pintures at their mouth that they chew with.


By the way, I was in the marines when I had mine so that should explain the thrill of feeding him. We would also give him beer. He liked it. We'd poor alittle on his head and watch him drink it, then he would crawl under his dear skull(in his aquarium) and sleep it off. What a lush!LOL

Can I have a pet scorpion in NY? Or is it too cold up here. I am so glad that I don't have all those things here in the wild, like the scorpion, lizard, snakes, black widows. But as someone else said we do got bees. I haven't seen too many of them this year though. Last summer me and a couple friends cought one of them huge fuzzy bumble bees, froze it in the freezer for like 10-15 muinutes, and then tied a string to it. It would fly around and be stuck on the string. It was funny to watch.

Look at the size of them claws on that scorpion. As been pointed out already, the larger the claws, the less poisonous. That little guy's bark is a whole lot worse than his bite.

Something that hasn't been pointed out yet, as a general rule the more yellow a scorpion is, the more venomous. For example, look at the emperor scorpion. No yellow, very big claws, not really poisonous.

Here in Nevada, we got these suckers. Very aggressive little *******s.
