What should I be running in my 450R? I've been using mid grade, 91 octane. It seems to run mint. For those with the HRC kit, do you up the octane a bit?

Just running the premium here. About 92-93 octane depending where I get it.

Good deal, I like to use either Mobil or Shell.

I use shell 93 in my car with real good results. There's a Mobil across the street though. Thanks for the heads up:)

Would it be harmfull to run 87 octane on a 450R? Do you really need to run 93 on a quad?

as of now im running a mix of ultimate4 and 93, once i go through the motor this winter it will be straight race gas. i looked at a friends spare yfz motor that he raced a few times on 93 and it was black with soote. i also noticed soote at the tip of my muffler but once i started mixing it with the ultimate4 its went away and the quad loves it.

I run 93 octane or a 50-50 mix 93 and 108 race gas. Have not seen an advantage running race gas ( except engine may run a little cooler ). Not sure it is worth the extra money for race gas. Compression is still stock 10:5/1. You decide.

I use 93 octaine with Klotz octaine booster so it is about 95 octaine. I have had great results with this mix. I use the booster because it stabilizes and preserves the gas and eliminates gum and varnish build-up. Plus it has a tetraethyl lead substitute to lube the upper cylinder. I love it and it work great.

i drive to my local BP on my quad (neighbor hates it, hes a cop) & fill her up with 93 then hit the trails

i use 93, anything more is a complete waste of money unless you have a higher compression piston.

Over time it can be harmfull. Octane is how fast the gas ignites. If you dont have enough octane, your piston wont fire at the right time....resulting in a "knock".

The 450R and especially the YFZ need premium grade gasoline (atleast 91). If you don't believe me, consult your 450R factory manual.

Find it in the manual for him bro. It cost like six dollars max to fill up your quad, and have a fun day of riding.....just put the right **** in it! good luck

Yah it's not really a big deal on a quad, in reference to cost. Anything with an engine with 450cc does relatively well on gas. :)

i use sunoco 94 octane and it gets a little better gas mileage with it, rather than 91. might run a little cooler too

I put 87 in mine one time and that was enough. Spark Knocks like a mofo especially if you lug it down. 93 works great.

This is great to hear!! I'm saving money by running higher octane gas. lol.. I have a 250r that needs 93 octane w/ octane booster and then i run klotz R50 oil which is $36 a gallon, so here.. I can buy TWICE as much gas (93 octane) and still pay the same amount!! hah.

Any one know how long a full tank of gas lasts?? I am not interested in hearing "Trail" estimates because your going sort of slow and not wide open, I ride dunes and like to go out on Long rides and wondering ussually how many hours of straight riding do u get out of a tank?
